So what would everyone think about a program with posted interview dates on SDN as well as people posting having gotten rejections and then with me having gotten neither? Where does that leave me in the whole process? Any ideas?

which program are you referring to? My thought is that programs interview on a rolling basis and either offer interviews or turn down people as they evaluate their file...but that's just a guess.

I'm in the same boat...I think in this case no news is good news. I'll take silence over a rejection any day! Kinda stressful though because they are obviously looking through applications as we speak...

No programs specifically...I've gotten interviews from programs listed but there are also programs listed that I haven't heard from and with no outright rejection either. I'm just wondering if a rejection is probably pending or if in other SDN folks' experience they have heard from programs on a rolling basis. Also if programs do notify on a rolling basis what does that mean if you're not in the first batch? Trying not to be paranoid but as we all know this is a stressful time! Thanks for the feedback guys.

I got an invite today from a program listed here as having invites going out 9/28. Same dates were offered. So... I guess that's one vote for keeping your hopes up!

I'm still waiting to hear back from a couple programs, and I interviewed in 2005.

No news is usually not good or bad. You may receive a late invitation, but it means your app is in the "maybe" pile....near the bottom...and you won't necessarily get a fair shake if you end up going there for an interview.

The truth is that there is often no obvious reason for these things. Applicants who look very similar on paper will get different levels of affection from programs. Three near-identical applicants will have one invite, one rejection, and one without interaction.

No news is usually not good or bad. You may receive a late invitation, but it means your app is in the "maybe" pile....near the bottom...and you won't necessarily get a fair shake if you end up going there for an interview.

The truth is that there is often no obvious reason for these things. Applicants who look very similar on paper will get different levels of affection from programs. Three near-identical applicants will have one invite, one rejection, and one without interaction.

Is is considered advantageous to contact the programs you are interested in....To put a voice with the name, so to speak? Could that make a positive diference?

I was at ACS last week and had a chance to speak with some program directors. One of them told me "I go through tons of emails of people applying to my program daily, I dont open any of them, I go through the applications first", that might had been that specific program but I can see how that might be true. I feel that unless you personally spoke with the PD or met him at some point it might be hard for them to take you serious

Anyone here who has not heard back from many programs? Both of my step scores are >250 and GPA of nearly 4.0 and I am sure i got great letters...so far i only got a response from 2 places . Kinda hoped i'd be more competitive! Any ideas what might be happening?

I think it all depends. If you applied to the most competitive programs, then t is going to take a while to hear back from them.

Anyone here who has not heard back from many programs? Both of my step scores are >250 and GPA of nearly 4.0 and I am sure i got great letters...so far i only got a response from 2 places . Kinda hoped i'd be more competitive! Any ideas what might be happening?

Assuming you aren't international and you didn't royally F-up your personal statement, if you haven't heard from a few of the middle tier programs that have offered interviews already, I'd make sure all your letters/requirements are in. With those stats, you should have heard from some middle tier places by now.

Are you implying that if you are an FMG/IMG and applied for surgery, you will receive your invitations later?

No, I'm saying if you are international...say med school in the Carribeans... it's going to be harder for you to get the top residencies even if you have the right numbers.

I just received an interview invitation from U of Colorado today and on here it say invitations were sent out 9/20 originally. Just fyi because someone had asked about that earlier. I'm not sure if that means this is the 2nd or 3rd round of interviews they are offering or if they offer on a rolling basis, but I wouldn't lose hope yet if you haven't heard from a place already mentioned on here!
 
Yeah... if you're an IMG/FMG you have tough path in the match no matter what your scores are.
