"In a sense, immunization programs have been a victim of their own success. Because of vaccinations, Americans today have little experience with vaccine-preventable diseases such as measles. As a result, they cannot easily appreciate the benefits of vaccination or the risks associated with not vaccinating."

This nation is getting ever closer to losing the herd immunity we've built over the past fifty years.
This issue is like screaming at the dining room table; all the evidence in the world isn't going to change someone's mind..."because Jenny McCarthy told me vaccines gave her son autism once on The View."

At its height of mortality in the US in 1918 the mortality rate from measles was 14 per 100,000. Even in that era it was not a major killer of children. Otherwise the children got a rash and a fever and obtained natural immunity which is safer and less costly. Vaccinations are not risk free and should not be sold as such.

Cool article. SDN ran a vaccine article a while back as well. http://www.studentdoctor.net/2013/07/hpv-vaccine-whats-all-the-fuss-about/. My favorite quote is "In the US, virtually all vaccines are victims of their own success." I really like that guy.

The CDC says on their website that HPV cancer death rates have been decreasing for the last 40 years due in most part to regular screening with PAP smears. Also due to females receiving advice on hygiene and nutrition. The current death rate is 3 per 100000 females. Once again a mass vaccination program is being suggested for what is a rare disease. When pharmacists begin to understand that drug companies hold influence over trials and medical advisory boards then we can begin helping patients find the best answers to leading a healthy life. We must stop being shills for big pharma. We are the most medicated and vaccinated country in the world and we are far from being the most healthy, smart or happy.
