The man was feeling a bit cracked.
Usually these characters - the creatures of Minecraft, the strange Dali paintings, his feelings made tangible - didn't make it into the real world. He kept them safely hidden in that humble bedroom with the glass-wooden-glass again desk, or in one of the infinite, block-filled worlds of Minecraft that his mind could create and manipulate.
But he was tired, and keeping his illusions alive during the past week had truly worn on him. When he woke up this morning, it wasn't in his false bedroom, or in his Minecraft world, but in the dark cell that had been his solitary home for the last... three years? five? More? Honestly, he had lost track a long time ago. Being alone did that to a person.
In any case, since he woke this morning there had been a second man quietly standing in the corner. He wore the blue pants and turquoise top that marked him as Steve -
@Promethean - and he was surprisingly silent all day, watchful and brooding. The man had been nervous at first, but eventually got used to it.
When he began to get a bit tired and the light in his room suddenly flicked off (his signal for nighttime), he was a bit nervous to see the man's eyes glowing a pale white/grey from the corner. He blinked, and they had come even closer. No, this was
not OK. He blinked again, and Steve was right next to him, silent but threateningly close.
The man spoke, (though he knew he was talking to himself), "
You didn't start this way, you know." Steve cocked his head, and the man felt encouraged,
"You were a good guy. You helped others find their way, to battle indifference, to find our way through the terrifying nights... what happened?"
Steve laughed silently, shook "no," and reached suddenly for the man. He struggled, feeling his jumpsuit tear, and kicked Steve away as hard as he could.
It was the strangest sensation, like kicking a balloon filled with helium... but Steve went stumbling backwards, hit the wall (still no sound), and disappeared in a puff. The room was still again.
