Hello all,
Looking for some opinions. Last summer I made the mistake of taking the MCAT before I was ready and got a 27. I took the exam late July, and had submitted primaries by then, so that my MCAT would meet up with my app to be complete. After seeing my 27, I knew I had no chance at the schools I sent primaries, and only filled out a secondary to a school I had really strong ties to and interviewed, albeit extremely late, and was eventually rejected. I honestly couldn't reason spending that much money on secondaries with a 27 MCAT, statistically I could have just gone to the casino with better odds.
Most of their feedback was somewhat focused on their niche, as its a specialized program I applied to. Mainly my application didn't highlight the programs focus enough but that is not my dilemma for the second time around.
I poured my heart and soul into my personal statement, my freaking advisor smiled and cried in the 8 minutes reading it, and has been well received from everyone I send it to. My problem is that in my post-interview-debrief, I was told to write a new personal statement, not that anything is wrong with this statement but, the committee will want to see a new letter, so as to not seem lazy (or seem like I did nothing but apply earlier to hope for a different decision).
So my question is, how much do/can I keep from the old statement? Obviously its possible to write a new statement, but I only showed that PS, to one school, and one major reason I wasn't accepted was a late app (was told the "MCAT score never came up as an issue"). I would gladly write a new PS just for that school, but thats not possible (right?). As its a school that I have ties with and statistically speaking the best chance of attending, I want to make it happy, but also want to put the strongest statement possible forward, and unfortunately I feel like I just wrote it 10 months too early. I answered why my experiences had led me to choose medicine, and those reasons haven't changed in 4 months since rejection. How far have you all gone with scrapping the old PS? Did you keep any elements? Thanks for the input.
