Does KFSHRC = King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center in Saudi Arabia? (did a Google search). Me personally? Nope. I didn't hear about it until now.

Yes... Few months ago, it received accreditation as the first and only ASHP-accredited PGY1 program outside the US. It's two years and somewhat different from programs in the US. I heard from the program director that there are lots of American applicants... Now, I can see 180 views, but no one replying!!

Does anyone hear even heard about it??

Well I did a google search and I found someone who did his PGY1 residency over there and is now doing his PGY2 residency at University of Maryland; his email was listed on the website; Google it and email him...

Can you send me what you found in a private message

Thanks..

I just sent you a PM...I just realized that the first 2 PGY2 residents listed on the page did their PGY1 at KFSHRC...I don't know if they have an agreement or something but I was very surprised..

There is a collaboration between UMMC and KFSHRC.. maybe this can explain that

I applied. There are 3 residency spots, and 2 go to Saudi applicants, so I don't view it as a realistic possibility.

I applied and had an interview, from my understanding, they are interviewing at least 15 international student. getting accepted is overly optimistic.... did you apply? if so what was your experience like?

I applied and it was REALLY a BAD experience. When did you have your interview? And where? Was it a phone interview? Are you American? And when will they choose their residents?

Hi Pharmaddict11;

I graduated from PGY1 residency program atKFSHRC last February…

The program here iscomposed of 2 years of three major elements: patient care, druginformation and medication use policy, clinical services and practicemanagement.

The first year coversstaffing in different areas of pharmacy (Inpatient, outpatient, druginformation, administration, and intravenous admixture pharmacy) 5 weeks eachand 3 clinical rotations.

The second year is allclinical (9 rotations 5 weeks each as well). It has 4 core rotations(cardiology, critical care, infectious diseases, and internal medicine) and abroad range of elective rotations are available (parenteral nutrition, pediatrics, transplantation, hematology/oncology and nephrology).

Additional learning experiences include thedevelopment and completion of a major research project of publishable qualityrelated to pharmacy practice. Development of excellent oral and written communication skills, patienteducation, participation in various departmental administrative committees, andpractice in various pharmacy areas throughout the institution are fundamentalcomponents of each learning experience.

If you need additionalinformation KFSH PGY1 residency program don'thesitate to ask…

Hi
My name is Marwa Amer and I completed my residency program (PGY1) resident at King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center “KFSH & RC” (first international ASHP accredited site outside US). An experience of two types of practice; pharmacy operation and clinical experience, were gained throughout the 24 month residency program. During this residency program, you will be able to identify opportunities for improvement of the organization’s medication-use system, improve your communication skills, manage time effectively, practice quality improvement activities, and understand the essential personal skills of a practice leader.
Additionally, the resident has the opportunity to practice dispensing different medications categories as outpatient prescriptions, DHL mail orders, prescriptions from ER department and home health care medications utilizing CPOE system. Working at inpatient pharmacy allowed the resident to deal with
restricted orders, STAT orders, issuing narcotic and controlled medications, adult drips, processing chemotherapy protocols, blood products, non-formulary drugs, and handling out-on-pass orders. At Drug information center, the resident has the opportunity to participate in evaluating requests for non formulary medications, preparing ADR reports, presenting journal clubs, updating hospital formulary, and educating pharmacy staff for safety alerts from different agencies and institute as FDA, and Health Canada.

Additionally, practicing as clinical pharmacist allowed me to gain a sufficient experience in communicating effectively with a wide variety of health care providers and patients from diverse backgrounds.

Please feel free to e-mail me at [email protected] if you need any further information. I look forward your feedback.
