I wonder if there are specializations in animal physical therapy. I'm just bored and thinking...

I read a really good article about someone doing Canine PT. They had a treadmill in a smaller tub for the dogs and other things they did for them. I don't have the address anymore, but I bet if you search it you will find info on it. This person had teamed up with a large vet clinic.

There is animal therapy, but you have to be a veterinarian, not a physical therapist, to get certified.

Actually, you can do animal PT as a PT. I'm actually going to be observing a PT later this month (which I'm stoked for!!!!):D

Yes, the person I was reading about was a PT and not a vet. They had just teamed up with a large vet clinic to generate pet therapy business.

Here is a link to one such place I just looked up. The founder is a PT.

edit: I found a link for a place in Florida that actually does internships and certifications for canine PT. There may be others but this is the first one I found.

Here is another at the Univ. of Tennessee that offers certifications in Equine and Canine Rahbilitation:

I shadowed a PTA who worked at a vet's clinic doing canine rehab.

She went to the Univ. of Tennessee to get certified - you have to be a Vet, vet tech, PT, or PTA to get the certification. Here's the info on the program: http://www.canineequinerehab.com/program-information.asp

It was maybe one of the coolest things I've ever witnessed.

Does anyone know approximately what the salary for animal rehab would be? I keep trying to look it up and it keeps giving me 81,000 the salary for all PTs.

I seriously doubt you are going to find any real, reliable data for this as it isn't really a mainstream profession. You may have better luck with this question in the Vet forum, but maybe not.

You found this in Florida. =D

I actually had some hearsay about this but never got links. It peaks my interest to the max. Most likely it doesn't pay well and you probably can't find anything near full time work, however, if that could be a certification for some part time, maybe on the weekend, then that would be pretty awesome. There might be an absurd amount of things wrong with everything I just said. I'm just a big animal person and the appeal is great. Practicality and worth it in practice straight out of school? Eh. Not sure.

My thoughts exactly. Knowing an approx median salary would be comforting but hey I'm sure I can learn more about it in pt school. I'd love to do it but it needs to make sense financially of course

Thanks for the links, they're rather useful:thumbup: I've just become much interested about this question.

FYI everyone this thread is 5 years old and got resurrected.

Why is is bad for a thread to be 5 years old and be brought back? I mean who cares? This SDN....I'm seriously not impressed with some of the people on here. What are you a moderator of threads?

I was simply informing everyone so that they wouldn't waste too much of their time responding to posts from members who haven't been on the forum in years, as tends to happen when old threads get brought back. Bumping a very old thread without making note of the fact you are doing so is impolite. Often times very good discussions get started off of resurrected threads. But it's annoying when you write a long response directed at a specific poster only to later realize they haven't been online in 5 years.

Might I suggest that you say briefly why you're stating this thread is old. Because just saying it's old makes it seem like this topic can't be brought up at all.

Might I suggest you don't keep old threads going just for the purpose of complaining.

Come in the thread because you have something useful to contribute.

Yup! Severly unimpressed....

You seem to have been thoroughly unimpressed with several highly qualified posters (who articulated their points clearly and fairly) here too: http://forums.studentdoctor.net/thr...idered-clinical-or-non-clinical.975176/page-2

Frankly you're performance in that thread was a bit embarrassing to the PT profession. If you really are so unimpressed with SDN, why don't you leave?

Also, if you are not currently a DPT or OTD, please do not misrepresent yourself by claiming to be such. I find doing so to be severely unimpressive...

I am not, I am striving. Why are some of you on here so rude? Someone may be qualified but rudeness is still undesirable, and yes on that post someone can reply and be respectful.
I just said you should inform people that when they bump a post to make a note it's old so people don't mistake it. It helps for people in the future. You just said its old, but if you said "did you know this old? Just so everyone knows, older posts may not respond." Also, I never represented myself as a DPT. What is your problem? I'm done, and trust me I take a browser position normally because I people can be unnecessarily disrespectful.

I never represented myself as a DPT.

Yes you did. You're member "status" says "DPT/OTD". There are options for "Pre-Physical Therapy" and "Physical Therapy Student".

Really??? you are so concerned because that's what it says? Sorry I wasn't so concerned (as I don't know how to operate this site) nor did I know it said that. May God strike me down. I am quite the sinner now...

Yeah no sorry I don't even know where this member status is you speak of... sorry. Don't even no how to change it.

I find that if someone thinks everyone else is disrespectful, that person should look in the mirror and see if perhaps they are a little overly sensitive.

The corollary to that is if everyone else is an a-hole . . .

Uh, no. ..it could be that two instances that people were disrespectful..... and I see it a lot. Not most of the time, but my first impressions were not positive. I find demeaning an effective treatment rude. I asked why the old post was bad cause everyone gets mad when people make new posts and can make rude comments. So what's the right thing? I think it could have been brought up more effectively with a purpose of why.

You asked why the old post was "bad" -- but the only person who said "bad" was you.
DesertPT just pointed it out for an FYI. Like, FYI, if you're not a DPT, don't call yourself one.

Don't even no how to change it.

Might I suggest you figure it out.

Yeah I'm done. It's like a high school on here. FYI the app either doesn't let you or its extremely user unfriendly for that aspect. I'm not trying to advertise myself as such. I probably read it as what you wanted so maybe you could collaberate... not that I fell I would want to right now with people on here....

"May God strike me down" -- that's classic high school drama. Hopefully you won't bring it into the clinic.

You initiated the original inaccurate/uniformed attack on this forum, and your posts are full of exasperated expressions of "disrespect" for others here.

One can only hope you're more mature in person. Come out from under the bridge. Show respect, and you'll get it.

I don't care this is dead, I got it. But, people were asking about it before...I found this and thought it was interesting. If someone was searching for this in a thread maybe they would want to check out this article. Saw it on today in PT, maybe would interest someone who might think it's a direction they like. Hey the world is your oyster! I'll just leave that for future browsers.
