Plans to restructure PGY-1 year

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
This seems like a great idea. Just want to make sure there is time to learn to be a doctor. We aren't general surgeons but we don't want to turf everything like orthopods either.

Copy pasted from Otomatch, no one replied, just wondered:

"The PGY-1 requirements for 2016, which outlines 6 months of ENT, can be found here:

How does this effect your prelim year vs. research year strategy in the event that you do not match?

What will programs with open PGY-2 spots do to fill them? Every year a few spots open up due to program expansion or residents leaving. Those doing a prelim year with the hopes of filling those spots cannot expect to have 6 months of ENT (even getting 1 month is tough).

Just curious if anyone can weigh in.
