I have way too many schools on my list of schools I want to apply to. I want to apply pretty broad (12-14 schools maybe). I am a California resident. I'm kinda at a point where I don't really care where I get in, I just want to get in, which I am sure is most of us. So are there any schools that are not OOS friendly on my list or schools that I don't have a good chance of getting into?
My Stats:
AA - 21
RC - 23
GC - 22
OC - 22
BIO - 19
PAT - 20
QR - 17

Overall GPA 3.922

Non-science 3.838
BCP + Science 3.981

About 200 hours shadowing four different general dentists.
Thousands of hours of community service.

Take out Missouri and Loma Linda unless you're a LDS. I think you have a solid shot at getting in... My stats were similar to yours (except had a 3.7 GPA) and I got into 6 schools. So maybe if you really want to, take out Tufts and USC simply because they're expensive as hell. If not USC, definitely take out Tufts if you're feelin thifty.

I am LDS, but I'm not SDA, which runs Loma Linda. What's up with Missouri? Are they a SDA school as well?

Apply to University of Pittsburgh. We need more members in our ward!

Haha do they accept a lot of OOS?? What schools would you cut if you could only pick 12-14 from my list?

Out of 80 in the class I think around half are out of state. I'm out of state with similar stats to you. I'd remove Nova, Missouri, and Midwestern IL to fit Pitt in but I don't really have a good reason to remove any of those schools haha

I was thinking about removing:
Loma Linda
NOVA
UCLA
Oregon (since I'm not sure they are that OOS friendly)

This is hard to know which ones to keep and eliminate! I really just want a list of 12 that I have the best chance at getting into. Any more advice would be wonderful

Eliminating UCLA would be a poor decision, at least in my opinion, since you're a CA resident. If I were to give you a list of 12, in no particular order, it would go like this.

  1. UCSF
  2. UCLA
  3. Pitt
  4. UNLV
  5. UConn
  6. Ohio State
  7. Tufts
  8. UNE
  9. Penn
  10. UoP
  11. Case Western
  12. Roseman
Some schools I chose because they were in the running from your original post, although I now little about them. For instance, I chose Roseman simply due to a probable high percentage of LDS students. I don't know if this appeals to you or not, but if you're accepted you'll at least have it as an option when you're making your decision. I included Ohio State and UConn, which weren't on your original list, due to OOS students getting IS tuition after the first year. Others were because I had positive experiences interviewing there, and they were already on your list .

At the end of the day the decision is yours, but let me know if you want any more help.

Wow thanks man! I really appreciate your feedback. I'll take that all in consideration and that really helps.

What about Lake Erie in FL? Is that a good school to apply to?

I know nothing about LECOM's program that I haven't heard on SDN, so I wouldn't be the best person to ask for information about them. let me know if you need anything else!
Is Ohio state oos friendly? I saw that only 17% came from OOS.

And I just noticed you are going to UConn congrats! What made you decided to apply and go there? I am guessing they give in-state tuition after the first year?
