Hi!

So, I am looking to apply to podiatry school and feel lost! Here is my situation :(

I graduated with my B.S. in Biology, low 3 gpa (will possibly be taking classes after I re-take my MCAT to improve if necessary) and 26 (so far, re-taking next month) on my MCAT. I have three years of hospital experience, shadowed several doctors with summer internships, a year of DNA splicing research experience, part of Phi Delta Epsilon (professional medical fraternity), and have recently been medically assisting/shadowing as well for the past 2 years and have strong recommendations.

I want to apply to NYCPM ideally or anywhere else you guys could recommend. Just looking to see if there is hope, I will be re-taking my MCAT with hopes of improving at least to 30. I had a fire alarm go off during my last MCAT and lost time in bio section, of course my luck, I was a gymnast for ten years competitively and probably tore and bruised my feet hundreds of times so I had a lot of years learning about and healing my injuries which sparked my interest. This may sound dumb but just giving some background! Please let me know what you think my chances are! And any advice would be most appreciated!

Happy Holidays!

You're good for any of the schools, even with the 26.

Even with the low gpa (3.17)? Do you think I have a good chance at NYCPM?
Thank you for the quick respnse BoilerPod! This made me feel so much better, all I hear from advisers is negative comments saying I need upper 3's and 30 mcat to even be competitive.

You're adviser is probably referring to your chance with DO/ MD schools.
POD school have average MCAT around 21-23 and GPA around 3.3.
Needless to say, you need a letter of rec from a podiatrist.

Also, why are you so locked on NYCPM? Any reason? just wondering

Just have met a few now current podiatrists who recommended this school but am completely open to any school in the U.S. Any you would recommend with my numbers?
Also, just a question will be working under a podiatrist after my next MCAT for a letter but was checking NYCPM website and they only say "All candidates must have obtained three letters of recommendation or pre-health committee evaluation. " Do only some schools require a rec from a podiatrist? Thanks for your help.

Interesting, kinda odd that all of the podiatrists you met all suggest NYCPM and nothing else.
Honestly, your stats are great and will get into anything with possibility of scholarships. So it really depends on where you want to practice

I believe all of the schools require 2 science and 1 podiatrist. Some schools offer this pre-health committee thing (I don't know the detail though), but this is interchangeable with the two science LOR.

Haha no not all podiatrists I spoke to suggested just that school. It was just a general consensus and since I live in NYC have had a few fellow classmates go there and tell me what they thought first hand. As I said I am open to any school in the U.S and will be applying as broadly as possible!
Oh I see, yes I will have my pre-health committee letter to apply and two science recommendations. Working on all of that stuff now! Thank you for your help :)

I'm probably a bit closer to your stats. I have a 3.27 science and a 3.35 cumulative gpa with a 25 MCAT (2nd try). I got interview invites to all 9 schools, interviewed at 4. I got accepted to all 4 with scholarships (not top scholarships, but decent). I also applied the first week of the cycle, but there is still plenty of time.

AZpod doesn't require any LORs. All other schools do though.

Just to make sure, so your saying most schools require 2 science recs OR the pre-health committee letter correct?
That is what I saw when looking at most admissions requirements!
Also, for example NYCPM says the deadline for September is June 30th so when does it open? Random question!
Thank you so much everyone!

You definitely have the stats for podiatry school. No need to retake the mcat. You can get in with low 20s mcat with ECs and LORs.

I hate saying ditto, but ditto to all the others.
I do have a recommendation that you do as well as you can(obviously) on the MCAT. If you score high enough you will get plenty of scholarships. I even managed to get 2 $6,000 scholarships with an MCAT of 22,
sGPA of 2.8, and cGPA of ~3.1. I will say, every other aspect of my application was impeccable. Not bragging, just trying to provide a whole picture.

When did you apply/interview? And would you mind sharing which schools?

Where did you apply to? What letters of rec did you submit?

Just my opinion and i know its a hard test but i think the fact that you went down on your third mcat raised somewhat of a flag over there.

Personally i think the 22 would have been sufficient at some of the schools. Can i ask why you took it a third time? Was your score well balanced?

Good luck and dont lose hope. Apply to more schools and hopefully some will more heavily consider that you hit above 20 on one of them.

Hi, do you think my stats are okay to apply as a rising senior, or should I wait another year. I will be taking my MCAT in august. I'm not a bad student life circumstances have really made the grades bad, my major gpa is 3.6 but my cumulative is a 2.859 .
Cumulative gpa: 2.859 science gpa: somewhere around there?
I started out bad as a freshmen did poorly in my classes because of no financial help, parents left basically telling me to pay for school. then came back into my life and then both parents went thru major heart surgeries which affected my grades because I took care of them.

-Upward trend I have been getting a 3.1-3.4 since freshmen year
-Did receive a D in physics retaking it now. Retook orgo 1 after getting a D in the first time, passed with a C. just took orgo 2 and got a C-. Pretty bumped out about that
-Do research at university of Chicago Hospital: learned bedside manners, how to talk to patients, and clinical hours.
-Volunteer at Ronald McDonald House of Charities for the past 4 years
-Shadowed 4 podiatrists and MD's, DO's including pediatricians, surgeons, heart specialist, family practice doctors.
- have done 70 hours of Clinical experience in Chicago at a family practice doctor and have done soap notes.
-Was a senator in Student government, in south asian student association, in muslim student association, pre-podiatry club

I will be taking my MCAT this august, I will study and put my entire life and soul into that exam. I truly do I want to be accepted into podiatry medical school I think its a wonderful growing field and can really see my self helping others relieve their pain. Please tell me if I have a chance, my low gpa and bad grades really upset me I wish I can go back and repeat my grades but unfortunately life circumstances and time cannot be changed now.

not really sure what I should expect, should I really give up all hope? just trying to get the highest MCAT score possible for myself.

is this to me?
Yes, but it's just a joke.

You have basically the same post multiple times in the forum already and it's a small forum so many people have seen your posts already. One of the moderators already merged one of your posts outside of the WAMC thread into your WAMC thread post, which is where this type of post belongs. I think this is the third or fourth post by you that I've seen that is basically a copy paste.

Also, you did kinda revive a thread that has been dead for over a year, hence the necromancy joke.

I think the general consensus on your posts so far is do well on your MCAT and you WILL have a shot at pod school. Specific adcoms might vary slightly though and most of us aren't on adcoms anyway, so take our advice with a grain of salt. I realize it's stressful but nobody is going to have a magic answer or a guarantee of acceptance for you, no matter how many posts you make. Your chances are 100% in your hands at this point because your MCAT will be the deciding factor here. Once you get your MCAT score back, then make an updated WAMC post, then you'll get updated answers. Nobody can tell you much more without knowing your MCAT score.

The answers you need right now are in your MCAT prep materials, not on this forum.
