Hi,

I'm about to apply for post-bacc premed programs, however, I am a little nervous regarding lab requirements due to a medical condition that I have. I am a person who cannot be around any fumes or chemicals due to hypersensitivity that leads to hemiplegic migraines with aura, which are basically migraines that mimic symptoms of a stroke. I can't even be around watercolor paint because I am that sensitive and will get a migraine. Preventative migraine medication is not an option for me either.

Thus, I am very nervous about taking say, a chemistry lab. The normal ventilation protocols that work for the average person are not sufficient for someone like me. Neither is just putting an extra fan next to me or something. I'm thinking that the only way I can do a lab safely enough is wearing a full out gas mask.

In general, how accommodating are med or pre-med programs with people with such medical issues? If a gas mask doesn't work out, are there any other possible options I can consider via the program? I'd hate to discover that I can't go to medical school because I can't complete the labs :(

Thanks for any help and insight you may have to offer.
