so i was perusing some of the other specialty forums and noticed that a few had some lists with whether or not programs had contacted them. this may just be the neurotic side of me but i was thinking it might ease some minds (or just mine) to know if others had been receiving emails//snail mail/phonecalls/singing barbershop quartets from these programs (yes, the quartet came with a free shave).

i figured if there was interest, we could set it up similar to the interview invite thread. you can post on the thread or if you prefer anonymity, message me (or someone else if they volunteer) and it can be posted.

anyway, if this is a good idea feel free to enshrine and worship my likeness. if not, gangsta rap made me do it.

Omg this thread will prob push some applicants over the edge.

You should consider removing the DO programs from the list since they match on Monday...just a suggestion.

Even if you don't get a love letter, you could still match. It doesn't really mean anything. I've gotten 4 love letters this season (3 of them are my bottom 3 choices). It didn't move them up on my list at all. The other 1 was from a very highly ranked program, which was nice. But, the bottom line is that these love letters didn't change anything. I don't care about bragging that I only went to # whatever on my ROL before I matched. I'm ranking them as I want them. No lovely "we're ranking you to match" letter is going to change your position on my list.

Agree. Saw one of my tops listed. This thread only applies to emails, letters, or phone calls that did not follow applicant contact, right? I got generic replies after stating my interest in X program but nothing really out of the blue.

i agree with this completely. my list is already set and won't be changing regardless of what happens. still i think it's nice to know that no one else is hearing anything from such and such program that i ranked number one and i shouldn't read too much into the silence (which is what i do anyway)

For real. Although there's no real telling what any of this even means. I bet most programs go well over #50 to fill their class. I doubt they send stuff to 1/2 the applicants that interview with them.

I wouldnt put much stock in this list. Let's just say that there are at least several more programs sending correspondences than listed above.

Are one of you mouthbreathers going to clue me in on the gag ? :)

I keed. But really, I don't get the joke.

I've been a card-carrying mouthbreather since 4th grade. Well, it's really more of a panting but.....

This thread had me totally sick to my stomach. Got a snail mail letter from my #1 today with the "would be delighted to see your name on our Match list" line. I know it doesn't mean much, but I sure feel better since I didn't hear anything from them after I sent my "you're my #1" e-mail a few weeks ago.

Hang in there, guys. In 4 short weeks we'll know if we matched...

It's a reference to the movie anchorman.

Ahh. No wonder I don't get it. Will Ferrell stopped being funny halfway thru his SNL days.

*Cue "whaaaa?!" reaction*

Say whatever you will; if I don't laugh at least once during the 90-second preview to a comedy, I'm not going to go watch the movie. Its that way for pretty much every Ben Stiller movie, too.

RF, admit Zoolander was amazing though.

With both Stiller AND Ferrell ? Its possibly the least funny movie, ever.

I watched ~45 mins with a buddy before I looked at him, said - "I can't believe that people think that this is funny", and left.

What?!?!

While we're on the topic, I'd like to know the last really good comedy movie you've seen then and we'll go from there.

Got a letter today with the same exact wording. Wonder if it means we are likely to match or just that we're on the list somewhere. Was yours from a school in a very cold climate?

Last really good comedy movie ?

Wow. Dunno. Its all the same over the past decade: two-hour long dick and fart jokes, and gags where you can't help but think : "This is just dumb. Oh look: she's confusing semen for hair gel ! Uhhh... no."

American Pie was hilarious, but probably only because I was in high-school at the time.

A buddy of mine who is three years younger made me watch "Superbad". It was just that: Super. bad. I didn't laugh a once. I looked at him and said - "The comedic nuances of trying to obtain alcohol underage are long gone for me."

I saw "Knocked up". I laughed maybe twice.

I haven't laughed at Adam Sandler since middle school, which is developmentally appropriate.

thanks to those of you for sharing.

i was actually wondering myself. ive gotten only 1 love letter out of the 12 programs i interviewed at.

best wishes in the match.

Edit 3/1/13,
Of the 12 interviews i went on my final count for post interview comm was:
1 phone call
1 email
1 snail mail

Adam Sandler is a genius for tricking movie-goers into essentially seeing varying versions of the same movie some 10+ odd times. I guess you're right, I can't really think of any great comedies either.

Yep. This.

Its sad that I saw the previews for "Wreck It Ralph" and laughed with nostalgic delight harder than I did at any PG-13/R comedy in the past.... five years.

Someone I know got a letter with identical wording (at least to the ability of our lab to analyze it). This program is in a very cold place. This person would very much like to go there and, upon questioning, loves the idea of working with someone named "DoctorTinyCat."

There was some worry that this snail mail was some form of pre-match rejection, but it was much more just a nice form letter. Plus, that would be illegal. Please stop worrying. Your anxiety is driving us crazy.

Also, I'm told that people should really think twice about giving good ranks to cold places because most people don't like cold, so please don't go there.

Got a call from a good program last night. They didn't say anything about the rank, but had a casual conversation with me and asked if I had any questions they could answer. Also gave me their personal phone number. Kinda strange, but it was good hearing from them....

One you're considering?

Could be in my top 3. I keep struggling to get these solidified. Great training though at the site in question.

I'd love to hear from a few others though. Only heard from low-tier programs and this one great one.

I thought there are no low tiers in EM?

Hmm got a call from the program director at one place, while cool, it seems like what people are saying on here is to not trust anything anyone says anyhow. But, it still feels good they took the time to personally call.

This is making me neurotic. Havent heard a word from 2 of my top 3. Decided SDN is what I'm giving up for lent, lol. May pop up again after match.

Good luck, all (assuming I can keep from breaking the SDN fast).

This thread has made me completely depressed. My number 1 has contacted other people and I haven't heard a thing. Or my number 2, 3 or 4...
