You are applying to meharry, so assuming
I'm you are a urm, yes. But I wouldn't bank on it. Retaking is the best course of action.

I'm curious why you don't have Howard as one of your options?

That was actually my first choice. I would love to live in DC, but it says in their website that their minimum is 18 in each section, so I took it out. However, I met someone that got accepted with QR 12. Also, their average is lower than 18, so it makes no sense. I added it again. I also added Louisville, Marquette, Misso KC, and Baylor. What do you think?

I dont know much about those schools. Im all east coast.

Go back to your overcast/gloomy Washington and your drought-afflicted California

Good points. I can't deny that. Funny how Oregon always gets left out. lol

Me too. I wish I didn't have to move, but with a 13 man, I'm not in a position of choosing.

You need to retake the DAT. That score isn't gonna cut it. Don't waste your money on the application process.

I agree with everyone else in that you really do need to retake the DAT. I know you're holding onto the hope because at least one person got in with a 12 but we don't know what sort of ECs they had or how well they did on the rest of their DAT.
If you are REALLY adamant on applying this year, I would suggest maybe just limiting it to the one or two schools you REALLY want to go to.

Question about my marks. I didn't do well in my first 2 years of university and I got B's, C's and one D but after those 2 years I managed to change up my habits and got all A's. Problem is those first 2 years have all my pre-req courses in there.
My s-GPA is around 3.1 and my overal-gpa is 3.45. cDAT scores are AA 22, PAT 23, TS 22. Do you think schools will look at my application unfavorably due to my low pre-req marks, even though my gpa increases after those 2 years with me being on the dean's list now? Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Wasn't gonna do one of these but now that I'm thinking about applying more broadly, I could use some suggestions on what schools to add or take out!!

GPA: 3.43 oGPA, 3.20 sGPA (Taking some accounting classes in the summer, Anatomy and Medical Terminology in Fall, hoping to boost GPA for Dec update)
DAT: 19AA, 18TS, 21RC, 22PAT, nothing under 17
Shadowing: 350 hrs
Volunteering: 1800+ hrs
Research: Like 1 quarter of SORT OF research but really, none.
Work: ESL Teacher, Secretary (~6 yrs)
Residency: CA
Reapplicant from last year (2015-2016 Cycle)

Schools: (* = interview from last year, waitlisted)
UCSF*

Would like to avoid CC-unfriendly schools such as Tufts b/c my pre-reqs were taken at a CC. y_y

I'd appreciate any and all advice n_n

Could use some advice before I submit later today!

I think the combination of the upward trend and a competitive DAT score will indicate that you definitely have changed for the better. The DAT does test the sci pre-reqs so scoring well in that shows that you've studied harder!

Are you urm?

GPA: 3.70 overall; not sure on sGPA but probably close to 3.55
DAT: 21 AA/20 TS/20 PAT/19 QR (lowest section)
Shadowing: 60 hours
Volunteering: 1000+ hours (not dentistry related)
Research: 1000+ hours
Residency: NE
Schools:
Creighton
UNMC
Minnesota
Chicago
Colorado
Marquette
UMKC
Iowa

I've already submitted, probably should have waited to get more shadowing hours in but most of the schools on my list require 50 hours (a couple suggest 100). My mom is hispanic but my dad is white, so I'm not sure if that will help me or not. Are there any schools I'm missing that I may have a good shot at? I don't want to apply to any more than maybe 1 or 2 additional to my list and I'd like to stay fairly close to the midwest if possible.

Chance me? I posted earlier but didn't write in much detail/didn't get much feedback

GPA: 3.42, ~3.25 sGPA. Dramatic upward trend; went from ~3.2 to 3.7 after 2 years of getting my life together.
DAT: 20AA, nothing under 17
Shadowing: 209 from gen. and specialists
Volunteering: Like, community service? Kind of depends what you define as volunteering, but around 200-300 hours
Research: 180 hours

Work/extracurricular (At least, the stuff I consider important):

* Licensed EMT-B
* Spent 5 years developing and drafting a patent regarding the use of viral therapy on cancer cells. Submitted the patent last month!
* Took a dental assisting course
* Spoke at a medical conference at Johns Hopkins University
* Medical assistant at a summer camp
* Supplemental Instructor for 2 bio classes at my university
* Mentored by the former US Surgeon General; I began that journey when he was in office as the deputy SG.
* Chair of external relations at a environmental nonprofit I co-founded.
* Leadership/development: Part of a selective 18-student roster who receive leadership dev. training in LA and D.C. for 6 months. Also enlisted to form a high-impact nonprofit by 10/16 with guidance. 50 Hours so far.
* Volunteer hands-on CPR instructor at my temple
* Anddd about 2.5k hours of work in a small business!

School list:
Maryland - Have a LOR from a faculty here.

Sorry for writing so much! I just want to know if I have a chance at any of these schools.

State of residency?

Very competitive profile overall!

Maryland! Thanks :) I'm mainly concerned about my GPA. Causing me a lot of stress

I'd think you're a shoo-in with your background. Cheers!

Are those 60 all from a general dentist? Your stats are pretty good otherwise!

Do you have more extracurriculars other than what's above? But your numbers seem good, I know Kentucky sucks with out of state and meharry mainly takes in URM

About 40 are and I did half days at other specialties. All the dentists I asked preferred having me do half days. My plan is just to continue shadowing and then if it comes up in an interview I can say I've done more.

That's good! I'd call each school and check if they have a minimum number of general dentist shadowing hours. Most say no minimum or 40,but one of mine requires 100-150

I would not waste my money on Meharry if I wasn't urm.
Thank.

Could you explain how you have a patent pending for a viral therapy lab technique on cancer cells, yet only have 180 hours of research? Something here doesn't line up...

I'm not saying that it's fine, but I know someone that got accepted last year with a 12QR. So, I'm hopeful. That's why I want help editing my list to maximize changes.

:(

You're considered an URM. So your DAT might not be too bad. But consult with others on SDN.

That research was for my uni. Medical utility patents don't require proof/research, more so ideas :) so I was doing tons of lit reviews

Don't mean to hijack this thread, but are you on here using two different usernames right now? My original question was directed towards "AskMeMyPetsName" and you answered as if you were the one who originally posted the information about a "patent".

I would consider NYU, BU, Temple, Buffalo, Stony Brook, and Pitt.

Throw some ivys in there if you want.

Stony and buffalo for a CA resident isn't the best idea. They aren't OOS friendly. Buffalo is misleading because they save 3-4 seats for folks from Canada.
