I am relocating to the US to start my PhD. I have plans to do an MD later but this question is not about me.

My father is an assistant professor of general surgery in my home country, he is 64 years old. I am trying to convince my family (him and my mother and brother) to move with me. But this can only be considered by my father if he can practice in the states. What are the opportunities for him in: research (clinical/non clinical)/ primary care or any other opportunity.

he is the kind of person who can't sit down, always working at the hospital or around the house.. so retirement is a silly thought for him.

He cannot do clinical work of any sort without completing a full residency. The US does not recognize any foreign training, except for Canada.

Whether he can get a research position would depend on his skills and experience. And also on his ability to get a work visa.
