What is the 1st and 2nd drug of choice for acute and chronic prostatitis??

Finasteride is for BPH. Prostatitis is generally an infection, and the etiology is generally dependent on age. Young guys with it tend to have an STD like chlamydia, hence the reason for doxycycline. Older guys tend to have coliform bacteria as the cause, which usually responds to 4 weeks or so of a flouroquinolone like cipro.
 
we usually prescribe at a minimum of 45 days.......sometimes 2 months for cure. hard to treat.
