how much did that cost????

ohhhh, finally :)

It cost me a lot.

870 $ for PASS applications only.
other applications more than 300 $.
TOEFL score request (17 $ each) + WES copy request (30$ each)
+ NBDE I request (25 $ each)

I don't know exactly but it cost me a lot

What about you?
Which schools have you applied for?
Did you get any response?

Hello everyone! I just like you and thinking about applying to Pros, but lately several people have questioned me about doing that saying that you will end up being a general dentist just with a huge loan over your shoulder, that confused me a little, I will like to hear your opinion on this, thanks , good luck with the applications!

Hello,

I think there is a huge deference between general dentist and prosthodontist in all aspects.

I think it is depend on personal situation.

For me, I am foreign dentist and I am planning to take my certificate and go back to my home country.

My country is short on dental specialists.

In my home country, we are short on

Im applying to Ortho, just wanted to see other threads other than OMS : )
Im applying to 7 schools and it costs over 1000$ already and this doesnt include GRE, TOEFL and the stupid ECE that took away all my + ( B+ to B).

Yeah I think Prosth is awesome , u definitely make more money than GP and u do so many cases that GP cant do e.g. Oral rehab. I dont know the situation in the US but in Thailand, Prosth make as much as anyone if not more .

Prostho is a good choice and anybody who thinks that it's a waste of time doesn't really understand what a prosthodontist is capable of both mechanically and economically.

I know quite a few orthodontists who are struggling right now and quite a few prosthodontists who are doing just fine. It's on both ends of the spectrum depending on your area. Then again, you can't beat ortho in terms of easy-factor. Prostho is A LOT of hard work to get there... ortho is pointing their fingers at their assistants and signing the checks :)

Finally :D

Let us share information about applications here.

At which schools did you apply?

Did you get any interview invitation?

I applied to UW, UIC, U of MD, Georgia, Marquette, UNC, Iowa, UConn. No interview invites yet. Did you get invites?

Interview invite from VA Houston 9/15

Whats the word/reputation about the program at the VA in houston?

Anyone else hear back from anywhere else?

Does anyone want to discuss different programs, their strengths and weaknesses and so forth? If not does anyone know of a place to maybe find that information? I looked on DT and that wasnt very helpful either

Oh forgot to mention. I applied to Manhattan, LA,DC VA's, Rochester, UW, Iowa, University of Tenn, Georgia Health Sci University, UCLA, and LSU. Any inside info on any of these programs.

Hey guys,

It would be awesome if you could post your impressions of each program on here as you go through your interviews. That would really help those considering pros in the future!

Personally, I know little. NYU, Manhattan, Monte, and NY Queens are all supposed to be awesome programs with a great patient base. Obviously the VAs are supposed to be a great experience - pt's don't have to pay for work and I heard that UIC was very implant heavy. Maryland makes you do most/all your own lab work. Anyone else?

From what I know...you do all your own lab work at Eastman, and UW. The VA's seem to provide most clinically experience. Not as heavy on academics.

Anybody know anything about Iowa, Georgia Health Sci. University, or Univ. of Tenn??? I applied bc I heard they are strong programs but don't know too much.

Just interviewed at UF. Seems to be a very good program. You make the program tailored to what you want to do. Dr. Oneill is very laid back and the residents all seem to work very well together. You can make the program as surgically or non surgically based as you want it. You can pretty much do whatever you want as long as you have research and literature to back up what you are doing. You do all of your lab work first year but starting 2nd year you start to send more and more cases off to the lab. 3rd year you send everything to the lab. Easy to obtain a masters there without have to even defend your research etc. All you do is present. supposed to be moving into a new clinic/new labs starting summer of 2012. Some people dont know if it will be completely finished by then. Downside is that there arent much faculty and current facilities are antiquated, especially the lab.

dentalstudentok, when is your MD interview?

BTW UConn interviews are over. My friend just got accepted recently. All interviews or secondaries completed. Just FYI for all the prosth applicants

Just wondering if you have any info on Georgia health Sci University, university of Tennessee, or LSU?

Finally:D, I got first interview from Tufts University (from Junk mail !!!!!!!!)

Does anyone know any thing about Tufts interview?

Thanks for sharing! I assisted at the UF pros clinic for awhile before dental school and I agree, everyone there is really friendly and helpful. The clinic is a dungeon and the lab is a broom closet, but if new facilities are in the works that would be awesome. Did anyone say where the new clinic is going to be?

congrats prostho! I Hope you do well and get in!

Yeah i actually assisted down there before dental school as well. The new clinics will be on the 1st floor. They are actually combining post grad perio and post grad prostho onto the same clinic floor. the clinic will be more of an open floor rather than the individual rooms they have now.

@ Prosthodontics...Im unsure about the Tufts interview, but you can expect all the standard questions..."why Prosth, where do you see yourself in 5 years, what do you perceive as a difficult prosthodontic case, what are your strengths and weaknesses, etc.

Also...In case they ask...know the ideal preparations, finish lines, reduction for FCC, PFM, all ceramic, and veneer preps. Could ask it...

Got interview at Eastman in Rochester on 9/29. Anybody have any word on LSU, Tennessee, or Georgia Health Science, UCLA, or Iowa???

I applied to the VA's except San Antonio...was a long shot but did my GPR at a VA so figured I may get some sympathy.

Hi jaybaldino,

I will see you at Tufts:D
Is your interview in September 9,2011?

Do you have any idea about wax carving at the end of interview?
Which tooth? Do we need to remember the exact dimension of each tooth?
What they actually ask about in the interview?
Are they inviting too many reapplicants for the interview?

Anybody have any input.

I am a little bit nervous because it is the first interview for me.
