Pseudo-Addiction: Fact or FICTION.

I would say fact, but what I have a problem with is the reason that the diagnosis was created, which is to provide a rational justification for improper use of opioids.

If a patient has "Pseudoaddiction" it is taken to mean that the underlying problem is that the patient's pain medication was not optimized right? It backs the whole undertreatment of pain theme from 10-15 years ago.

What it should be taken to mean is "chemical coping" that can progress to full blown addiction.
 
I was taught that term when I was a med student doing a pain rotation in 2007. Haven't heard it since then. Haven't used it ever.
