How often do dental students get published for dental or basic science research? Are dental and medical students too busy to conduct enough research to get published?

I'm a fourth year currently and I've got 3 publications (2 case reports and one actual text) but I'd say I'm in the definite minority. I think a lot of people at my school who want to specialize (and have a decent shot at getting in, not the 2.5 GPA "I want to do ortho" candidate) have done some sort of research. Most don't get anything published but I'd say probably about 10-12 out of 75 have done posters, oral presentations, etc.

It's not really being super busy, it's just the opportunity and desire to do it. Most people don't want to put the extra effort in when they're exhausted from classes/clinic.
