I went for the first session of a deep cleaning yesterday, and had 5 shots of anesthesia. It was so painful. Anyway, my teeth are OK now but my jaw is still hurting today (deep pain), and I cannot open my mouth. I can talk but my jaw would be painful. I am getting scared. When will the pain go away so that I can start eating normally?

It sounds like you have trismus. It is just an inflammation of the mouth muscles either from the injections or just from holding your mouth open. Its is nothing to worry about and it will go away. Eat soft foods for several days and just avoid overusing your jaw. Taking ibuprofen should help as will moist heat. I would also call your dentist and tell him about it so that he can offer you any other advice that might help you. Good luck

Five shots is brutally excessive for a deep clean. How many arch did they deep cleaned.
