Hey guys,

I am a third year interested in Rad Onc. I was wondering where one could find stats on match rates for previous years. I saw a link(it may have been ERAS) posted on a previous thread that gave stats on number of applicants, avg number of places applied to, etc. However, it didn't say anything about the number of seats available or match rate for 4th year med students applying.

Thanks

Well there are ~360 applicants this year and ~120 slots, giving a ratio of 3 applicants per slot roughly.

However, these numbers are somewhat misleading as they imply that all candidates are equallly likely to land interviews. Fully one-third of applicants are IMGs and Osteopaths and the stats don't include those who rank RadOnc programs alone versus ranking RadOnc with IM or another field.

Try the data tables found at NRMP: http://www.nrmp.org/res_match/data_tables.html

This one may be of particular interest: http://www.nrmp.org/res_match/tables/table6_04.pdf
Code:
Positions Offered and Percent Filled by U.S. Seniors and All Applicants

                       Filled
        Offered %US %Total
2000 85 78.8 88.2
2001 81 93.8 97.5
2002 83 91.6 97.6
2003 107 90.7 100.0
2004 117 86.3 98.3

Since 2001 the % of spots filled by US seniors has been higher in Radiation Oncology than in any other PGY2 specialty that offers more than 2 spots.
