What soda do you put in french onion soup? I always make mine with merlot - you know, adult soda.
I make mine with really dark, yummy beers.

hi so i´m a pre med student and i need to get some scrubs, i'm from a VERY hot place and need some scrubs that keep with you in that area.. i mean i need som fresh scrubs, also not expensive ones

I am also from a very hot area. Honestly, scrubs are not the most breathable and I don't think there is much of a difference in staying cool. Grey's Anatomy are a bit more soft and thin, but they get expensive. I love my Wonderwink scrubs, I also really like Koi brand but both those are expensive as well. Goodwill and TwiceAsNice (not sure if they have that elsewhere, it's another thrift shop) often have high quality, name brand scrubs for like $5 a piece.

The Grey's A ones are definitely expensive, but on the plus side, they last forever. The only thing that messes them up is bleach. I have washed some of my older pairs tons and tons of times thanks to anatomy and they are still bright and perfect. They don't change size if you do, though, so... haha. Maybe one pair at a time for a while. Vet school often adds a few pounds.

My favorite thing that I found on Amazon today:

I'm driving to Boise tomorrow and love books on tape but I can't find one that is sparking my interest. Does anyone have any that they loved and suggest?

I think that Neil Gaimon narrates his own books on tape. His voice is fantastic. If you've never read him before then you need to. Right @WildZoo ?

I worked with a girl last summer who introduced me to some cool NPR podcasts. They were fun to listen to in the car.

She also played this one CD and never realized that the same song was set to play on a loop. I cannot for the life of me figure out who the singers were or what that song was, even though I listened to it for HOURS going between the university and our field site. It was blue grass/folksy music and I think there are two women on the cover of the CD. Fun story, right?

This sounds like something that would happen on Welcome to Night Vale, another podcast I really enjoy. It's weird as **** though.

Pfft I've been wondering but figured everyone else knew
I'm not alone!

We are obviously soul mates now. If we have lunch it will turn into dinner and then the rest of our lives.

Hey what does Sealab 2021 mean?
Pfft I've been wondering but figured everyone else knew
Y'all's posts are making me feel like a weird terrible hipster or something.

It's an incredibly amusing (and weird) television show from Adult Swim that used to air in the early 2000's. They took an old Hanna-Barbera cartoon and just dubbed over it with new voices.

This place is nerd central and you're the nerdiest of us all. :p

Kidding, Trilt would totally win that contest. You're safely in 2nd place.

Are you assuming I'm too young to have watched that show? Because I am not

Oh, I mean I 100% admit I just googled it a couple weeks ago when my curiosity got the best of me, and passed that along. I've never had cable and have never really watched much TV...

That's why I said I felt like a weird hipster and not like you made me feel old. ;)

I used to watch Sealab 2021 really late at night when I was like 8 or 9. Hilariously inappropriate for that age group, but my parents didn't know I watched it so I watched it a lot. It's pretty much in the same vein of humor as Aqua Teen Hunger Force. Definitely not even close to high brow.

I mean, I would gladly fight Trilt for that title. Except my nerd arms are like noodles so I'm not much use in a fight.

I will also admit I'm much better at televison and book nerdery than video game nerdery because my hand eye coordination is bad and also I get scared when games expect you to fight things to stay alive.

Quiz bowl @Trilt ?

I forfeit and happily take second place. :p

Sorry Needy McNeedypants ;)

I usually listen to podcasts on the road. I really enjoy Serial (like S1 better than S2), This American Life, and Radiolab. As for books I would actually recommend listening to American Gods. Great book.

Also,

I second serial s1, though to be fair i have yet to listen to s2

as for the trailer:
Me: Oh the casting is perfect!!! The atmosphere is perfect! Gimme now!

Love WTNV :)

Also I'm reading The Girl on the Train right now and also will second John Dies at the End as a super great book.

What is The Fireman about?

S2 is still good - it's about Bowe Bergdahl, the US soldier who was held captive for five years and was considered a deserter because of how he got captured (left his base without permission amongst other things). It just wasn't a subject that I personally found to be as engaging as S1's subject.

I've spent the last couple months slowly trying to catch up on WTNV. I'm around episode 40 I think.

The Fireman is about a worldwide pandemic of spontaneous combustion caused by a spore called Draco Incendia Trychophyton (friends and enemies alike call it Dragonscale). The main character is a nurse named Harper who is obsessed with Mary Poppins and other children's stories (some Harry Potter references in there!). Some parallels to The Stand, and my favorite things about Joe Hill's writing are pretty much the same as my favorite things about his father's. So I really enjoyed it :)

I'm not even sure where to put this, so random it is.

Helped my lab's new assistant with a shipment of fresh tissue last night because she was the only assistant on and was swamped. Luckily there wasn't much to take care of except a few smallish things and something that was wrapped up in a garbage bag. Inside the garbage bag was a 30lb, enormous fat mass. The clinic it came from described it as "watermelon sized" , but I really don't think that was even very fitting. Maybe a pair of watermelons would have been closer. It took 3 of us to cut through it and find non necrotic representative sections of this monstrosity. I feel so bad for this dog, and have no idea how the vet took this thing off. Or what it's back looks like now after losing more than a square foot of skin.

This reminds me of a news story I saw recently where a golden with a 40 lb tumor covering one entire side of his chest was found abandoned on a beach. They removed his tumor but I don't think had heard back as to whether it was cancerous by the time I read the article. It is a golden though so I didn't have high hopes there.
