I wanted to ditch the old 2010 thread and start fresh, so here you go.
I'll probably end up looking for a roommate in a nearby apartment. I'm coming from Maryland.

I have also been accepted to the BMS program and will be attending. PLan to go with the on-campus student housing. I'm from NJ.

Yeah, I suppose we should discuss 2011 BMS in a 2011 BMS thread

I'll be coming all the way from Illinois.

Thanks for the new thread! I am also leaning toward student housing. Its a reasonable price if you get the 2 bedroom option with a roomate!

Created a facebook group for BMS 2012 :)

Everyone planning to attend please join!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anybody know if Canadian students need to go through the International Transcript Service too?

Yeah you definitely need to but they follow AMCAS, so anything above 80 is considerd 4.0 GPA.

I know the grading scale is A/B/C..., but is that based on rigid percentages or on the med students performance in the courses (or both?)?

Come on BMSERS keep this thread alive!!!!!!

Where is everyone attending RFU staying? On campus housing or off-campus???
I am WL on the on-campus housing :(

What's cheaper?

What's cheaper?

Off-campus is cheaper rent wise, but since the on-campus includes all utilities (except electric, nt sure abt heat) the total cost either way balances out. The on-campus housing is a bit nicer than off-campus ones(from the reviews on sdn).

I personally will go with the on-campus housing (hopefully they'll get me off that stupid WL soon).

I should find out about the on-campus housing..

Student housing has an online application you can submit-pretty easy! Then they will enter you in a lottery and only a certain amount get picked. They already had the first "lottery draw". There should be another one this month.

Thanks for the info zip!
I am counting on getting picked this month :)

Question about the student housing: how binding is applying for that? Or, if this is a better way to put it, at what point does it become binding?

If i do RFU BMS it's cool, but if i get off of a wait list in the middle of the summer, I don't want to be stuck with a lease with RFU housing ya kno...

It becomes binding at some point in early May when you have to make a $500 deposit!

Officially got my acceptance letter in the mail today!!!

Now I have to decide b/w RFU BMS and BU MAMS, which are both great schools. Does anyone know if previous BMS graduates matriculate into other allopathic schools if they do well in the program?

Hello everyone, I just got my official letter of acceptance into the BMS program.. I am coming all the way from florida and looking for a place to live beginning sometime in may 2011..

I will be spending most of my time studying, I do not listen to loud music or have pets, cleanliness is a top priority, as is respect for others' privacy

Message me if interested.. also you can find me on facebook: Farhan Abdul Rashid

good luck to those of you waiting for your letter of acceptance and I look forward to meeting all of my future classmates!

Gratz!!! I'm probably gonna move right around late July.

How good is chicago med school in terms of their national standing? Would this school be considered mid-tier? Mid-low?

Got the email today about student housing. I guess Im in for the 2Bdr setup. I think they assign roommates 2-3 weeks before school starts. So as far as I know this has been the second lottery drawing for student housing, there is a deposit due by May 6th.

I also got the email from student housing. They sent me the contract for one bdr that I had requested on the application. The due date for $500 deposit for me is also may 6th.

I just signed into a 1/1 in student housing.. my move in date is May 9th. anyone else moving in before august?

Any stats on how many students got in from this year's BMS class?

hey guys I am really excited to move to chicago! i just turned in my 100 dollar deposit and acceptance letter last week. I applied for a 2 single bedroom apartment.

So the furtherest East i've ever been has been Texas so I will definitely be out of place. I hear it gets cold and public transportation is really convenient.

My name is David Vo so facebook me!!

Has anyone inquired recently about the scholarship?

Hey this is a reply to some person that PM me asking about the acceptances this year.

They've changed the policy from past years. They sent us an e-mail today that no acceptances will be given out until June. This makes arranging living arrangements for next year/ residence deposits very inconvenient for all BMS students.

Regarding the 70% stat that gets thrown around - this only takes into account EVERYONE THAT APPLIED TO CMS and finished the program. FOr example last year I believe they started out with 100 or so students and about 60 people ended up getting in. But the 70% stat takes into account only the 80 or so applied and finished the program. If you took into account everyone that dropped out the real stat of getting in would be around 50-60%.

This is pure speculation but I think this year because there are still more than 100 BMS students still remaining they don't want to upset a huge mass of students that didn't get in first round. If you think about it...if they sent out the acceptances after everyone left (in june) then they wouldn`t have to deal with a mass of upset people (because everyone has left for summer vacation).

Regarding the question this person also asked about guarantees - there are none in this program. In fact, no one knows what the real criteria is of getting in...not even the academic advisors. Some people with Cs in the past get in...why I have no idea. Some people with straight Bs will get in over some people who had As and Bs. The criteria I think makes it frustrating and confusing for alot of BMS students. Because many of us ask...what do you need to get into CMS exactly??

The only people that know the real criteria are the admissions committee and for some reason, they have never told us anything. There are TONS OF RUMOURS just don't listen to them and get staright As, that is the only surest thing that you can do to give yourself a chance.

The bar has been raised in my opinion in this program. Enrollment is increasing and stats of BMS students are increasing in general. In these ecnomic times, physicians have probably the safest job of all and the caliber and number of students enrolled is increasing. Don't take anything for granted, work your butt off, if you get a C in this program your chances are very low of getting in (in my opinion). In addition you will end up having a very low graduate GPA from a low to middle tiered medical school which will ruin your future chances of getting into medical school.

I hope this didn't sound too negative, this program is great if you do well. Don't trust all advice that you hear, because what you will find is that BMSers that get into CMS absolutely love the program (and have very few negative things to say). I think one thing I always hear from successful BMSers is how much this program helped them find their way, helped them find their passion and helped them re-dedicate their lives, etc. while BMSers that didn't get accepted are some of the most bitter people you will ever meet. SO take everything you hear with a grain of salt including the advice I just gave you :p

Thanks drake. Wow...its crazy that they are waiting till June to tell everyone. Its a bit concerning that people wont know where they stand early enough. Also, I wonder if this will make things very competitive for our year. lets say you have a good amount of people with good grades in the BMS program, they might start looking at the undergrad GPA and MCAT scores as a big consideration of whether to accept ppl or not.

BMS Acceptance check
Housing Contract check
Deposit for contract check
Financial Aid app check
Loans App check

Looks like I'm gonna see ya guys for sure in August
Chicago here I come :)

Does anyone know how many seats remain unfilled in the program?

Just got my acceptance letter yesterday!

Is it possible to live in the Wriggleyville area and commute for classes? Are the lectures streamed online? Thanks for any info and congrats to everyone else that has been accepted!

ive read on sdn that the lectures are recorded and posted online later in the evening by the professor..

Hey I just got my acceptance into the BMS program for fall 2011.

People are asking about stats, so here are mine. Nothing too crazy:

2.89 from UW-Madison. 2.99 Sci GPA.
MCAT 28M (just retook it May 7, and I know I did much better, but got accepted with a 28M).
I volunteer weekly at a hospice center, and have over eight hundred hours of community service between senior year of high school and now (all volunteer--not because of crime lol).
I've shadowed ER, Cardio, Pulmo, and Rheum MDs, as wells as Optometrists, and PTs (6-20 hours each)
Was in several extracurriculars in college, many of them through a Fraternity.
Worked for two years as a development specialist at an immunoassay development company and one year at the National Primate Research Lab.
Worked with kids at a phych hospital and at a center for developmentally disabled kids.
Good letters of rec from people who actually knew me.

I hope everyone who wants it bad enough gets in! See you fellow BMSers in the fall!:)

Hey, when did you apply and do you know when you were considered complete by the program? I'm trying to gauge when I will hear back.

I just got accepted today!
I'm torn between schools...and am quite indecisive. Top contenders are University of Maryland's masters in Molecule Medicine (2 yr and in-state) or RF. I got waitlisted at Tufts, but they do not let you know until July or so. I'm taking the MCATs on the 26th, so hoping that may be used as leverage into the program.

Does anyone if it is possible to get the 14-day response extended? Such a tough decision!

Hi. Would you mind sharing when was your application considered complete (date)? As Innokus stated. It would be great to know so to gauge when I could expect a reply.

Cavallo and Innokus,

Melissa sent me an email on April 25th saying everything was in, and I received the acceptance packet in the mail on Sat the 7th. I had everything in quite a bit earlier (end of March), so I'm not sure what took them so long to mark my app complete. There are a lot of applications at this time (obviously) so if you applied recently, it will most likely take them a bit longer to sift through everyone.

Keep in mind that there is a lot of movement in the early summer, so don't worry too much!

Hello,

I have been accepted to the BMS program at Rosalind Franklin University. I am currently looking for housing near campus. I have turned in my on-campus housing application which is what I prefer however there hasn't been much movement on the waitlist.

Are any of you guys in my same position? I will be heading out to Chicago by the end of July took look for housing within walking distance to campus.
So, if you guys are looking or need a roommate please let me know!! don't hesitate to facebook me. haha i won't be creeped out

Just got the acceptance too, I think I'm going to attend. The no glide year is too enticing to pass up

Hi Bigloley. It would be great if you find it possible to share when was your app complete and when did you get your acceptance email?

Thanks a bunch

Hello! I'm planning on applying to RFU BMS next year and was just wondering if the people that were accepted for yr fall are also applying to medschools in June...

I'm planning on applying in the fall (for next year) and then apply to medschools in June '12. Am I doing the right thing?

I was complete on 4/5, got a waitlist email on 4/15, got a email that my application was complete and undergoing review on 4/29.

I called on 5/4 because I already received a waitlist email and then 2 weeks later I received a conflicting email saying that I was complete and undergoing review. When I called Melissa told me she just sent a "very happy package" out in the mail for me that morning and I received the acceptance package on 5/10.

At this point I'm just glad of the acceptance and won't question anything but I don't know if I actually was on the waitlist because I've heard that acceptance off the waitlist happens via email as well. If I was, I was only on the waitlist for 2 weeks so that's not a bad turnaround at all.

The best thing is to email or call to find out the status of your app

Hey guys...I was thinking about applying to this program but considering it's so late in the game (deadline is June 1st) and it seems like many of you have already gotten acceptances, I'm not sure if it's worth it. How hard is it to get in?

Also, for those BMSers that went through the program already, do you think the money you spent for this program was all worth it? Or would you have rather retaken the MCAT and worked for your year off before medical school?

I plan to retake the MCAT in July but was considering applying to this program as a backup for my year off.

Please let me know what you guys think. I'm trying to gain some perspective on this program. Thanks!

I know a few people who applied around this time last year and got in (I think possibly wait listed first) but it definitely is a possibility.

good luck
