Does anybody know why Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital isn't a little more prestigious for categorical internal medicine? On paper it sounds as though it should be--first of all, Santa Barbara itself is like a resort community--warm, sunny, on the beach--totally beautiful. Also, the city and the hospital seem to be swimming in money. Yet it's pretty full of IMGs and pretty non-competitive for categorical medicine. Any thoughts on why this might be?

Just my thoughts:
- not a well known program
- very very cush from what i hear = not the greatest physician training
- limited pathology in the small town of santa barbara?
- limited fellowship possibilities
- high cost of living in the picturesque town of santa barbara

I did not interview there...these are just thoughts/hypotheses

But if one knows they definitely want to practice in that community, might be the perfect residency

Not sure how many other reasons there are going to be other than probably limited research opportunities, thus hindering fellowship placement. Also if the place is all imgs, it'll make amgs wary.

Resort community+swimming in money=poor training
