Scaled scores have just been released for April tests. Curious to see how percentiles translated into scaled scores for others...

Percentiles
--> Scaled
Chem/Phys: 77-92 percentile --> 127
CARS: 85-100 percentile --> 129
Bio/Biochem: 70-85 percentile --> 127
Psych/Soc: 85-100 percentile --> 129
Total: 86-96 percentile --> 512

This was from the April 18 test.

Did they give you an associated percentile as well? Final percentile I mean? Did you fall in the original range you were given?

Percentiles --> Scaled
Chem/Phys: 81-96th percentile --> 128, 87th percentile
CARS: 57-72nd percentile --> 126, 70th percentile
Bio/Biochem: 85-100th percentile --> 131, 99th percentile
Psych/Soc: 85-100 percentile --> 132, 100th percentile
Total: 90th-100th percentile --> 517, 96th percentile

I absolutely cannot believe I got a perfect score on the P/S section....it was my worst section while studying! If you have any more questions feel free to hit me up.

Congrats, that's a great score! I'd hit you up for advice, but I'm writing on Saturday, so it's a little late for that :)

Hi, congrats on your amazing score? Can you share with us how you studied for this test? What is the secret behind your success on all sciences?What did you use for Bio/Biochem? Is there any tips/strategies that you want to give us to ace this section? What was your AAMC sample test score? Thanks!

Well done! To piggy back on angel's question, what were your practice test scores like (for whichever method you used)?

Edit: oops that was asked. My bad

Good question. In the individual sections my actual % fell generally in middle of the predicted. But for the overall, my actual % was on the lower end of the predicted...probably has something to do with the fact that I was stronger in typically weaker sections and visa versa.

Predicted vs Actual %
Chem: 77-92% -->79%
CARS: 85-100% --> 93%
Bio: % 70-85%-->77%
Psych: 85-100% -->93%

Overall: 86-96% --> 87%

Thanks guys for putting these up here. Will be interesting to see how the 85-100/90-100 people turned out!

If on the new percentile table it says that 125- 55% does that mean that a 54% for example would be 124 or 125?
(SO IS 55% THE MIN OR MAX?)

This was mine:

Estimated Percentiles: ----- Actual Scaled/Percentile:
Chem Found 85-100 ------------ 131 / 99th
CARS 85-100 --------------------- 131 / 99th
Bio Foundations 85-100 --------- 131 / 99th
Psych Foundations 85-100 ------ 132 / 100th
Overall 90-100 -------------------- 525 / 99th

First student I heard back from was 90-100th estimated and ended at 518.

Bio Foundations 85-100 --------- 129 / 93rd

I know you can't equate them, but is a 98th percentile on the new MCAT roughly treated the same as a 37 on the old MCAT?

Great job Next Step! I think that score translates to a 42-43.

Did most people with 85-100 on all sections and 90-100 total end up scoring 95+? I couldn't figure it out lol too many posts to catch up to.

Estimated Percentiles: ----- Actual Scaled/Percentile:

Great job, sample test scores?

He's a professional MCAT tutor. When your full-time job for years is figuring out the most efficient way to approach and solve problems, master material knowledge, and communicate it all to others, on top of already being an academically-capable individual, it's not hard to imagine people getting very good at it. This is why you see score reports from people that have taken the MCAT several times and scored 99th percentile each time (and specifically, they retake it to stay current with the presentation of the exam, and the more exam forms they see, the more they can distill their experience down into useful prep for their students.)

What study materials did you use? Any practice other than AAMC?

I did all the AAMC question packs for practice...well...I think I had like 10 verbal passages I didn't do.

I read the books from the 2010 Kaplan 5-book set (skipped bio), 2015 TPR biochem, 2015 TPR psych, and Sterling's biochem practice exams.

If you can manage 3 hours a day for 5 months and move from bulk review to purely working passages in that time, I think you're great.

You found the Sterling passages useful? I looked at one of their passage books and thought the questions were not very AAMC-like.

You're right, they're not. I'd say they're much more straight forward and that's the thing I liked, it was a good quiz tool to help keep the material fresh in my mind. Essentially, I reasoned I SHOULD be able to answer all the Sterling questions, if I couldn't, I must be weak in that content area. It helped to find holes I didn't know I had and fill them.
