1. I think it would be best to let your creativity and experience guide how you should incorporate your running into your spiel rather than let someone else dictate that. I imagine it being an excellent essay framework around which to build your story. It clearly demonstrates your drive. Let it introduce and close the essay, but do not focus too heavily on the running, itself. It must be subtle.
2. Looks fine.
