I'm going to have some free time this summer off from school until Fall semester starts, so I thought I would go and do some shadowing; however, the question I have is, what difference does shadowing a GP vs a specialist? Do D-schools want to see more GP shadowing and then if I want to specialize after D-school I should go and shadow a specialist? Or I shouldn't worry about it as shadowing either dentist will meet the qualifications? Not sure what to do here.

Mostly GP doesn't hurt to get some other exposure imo

Do both, but more GP. If you already have plenty of GP(60+ hours) go shadow omfs. I enjoyed shadowing omfs a lot and it was a great learning experience. I would shadow some ortho, too, if you haven't already.
