Hi everyone, I'm a long-time lurker, but first time poster.

I have a statistics question that I am on a deadline for. My advisor is on another continent, with no internet access, and I have no one in person that I can ask.

I did a study, where I assessed if depression and anxiety moderate the relationship between two variables (variable 1 and variable 2). However, I am not sure how to control for the correlation between depression and anxiety.

For my interactions, I have done hierarchical regressions:
Step 1: Variable 1, depression
Step 2: variable 1 x dep

and repeat for anxiety

If I want to control for depression, should I do another hierarchical regression like this:
Step 1: variable 1, depression, anxiety
Step 2: variable 1 x anxiety

OR

Step 1: variable 1, depression, anxiety, variable 1 x depression
Step 2: variable 1 x anxiety

OR

Simple regression
Independent variables: depression, anxiety
Outcome variable: variable 1

Sorry this is long, but if someone can help I will be REALLY grateful!

The answer will become obvious. Hint: you need to look at the data to figure how to arrange your regression.
