Since I started the official acceptances thread, I'll get this one started as well.
Although I am a member of the c/o 2016 through early admit, I think my stats apply to the c/o 2015 since I applied during the same application cycle.
Here it goes!

First time applicant, 19 years old, Female, Virginia resident.
Applied: Michigan State
Apps withdrawn: none
Still waiting: none
Interview: none
Accepted: Michigan State c/o 2016!

Cum GPA @ time of application: 3.69

-Planned and hosted a fund raising event to pay for my foster dog's surgeries. Raised over $1,000.

eLORS:
2 vets from the SA hospital I've worked at for 4 years
My academic advisor who also taught one of the courses I took last semester

Awards and Honors:
Member of Michigan State U's Honors College
Honor's College scholarship
High school valedictorian
Other various awards from high school including VA state science and engineering fair, top German student, top science student, etc.

I am so excited to know that I have secured a spot in the c/o 2016. In order to matriculate, I must finish my prerequisites, finish my BS, and keep at least a 3.2. For more info on MSU's Veterinary Scholars Admission Pathway: http://cvm.msu.edu/student-informati...ission-pathway
Most of my awards and honors were from high school because I graduated in the class of 2009. I came to MSU with 23 AP credits and took 4 at a community college, totaling to 27, which put me at sophmore status when I enrolled last fall. Therefore, I am graduating with a BS in 3 years and only had 34 credits that counted toward my GPA when I applied (AP credits don't count towards GPA).

Woot!:D

congrats on your acceptance, even though you titled it for c/o 2015 and you're c/o 2016. :) either way, it's an exciting feeling to already have that acceptance and just have to fulfill your matriculation requirements!

can't wait to see this thread and the official acceptances thread fill up from all of this year's applicants! good luck to all of you interviewing soon!

I only bumped it because someone mentioned stats on another thread. Sorry guys! No rush!

That was me that mentioned it. Sorry for jumping the gun

However, there are quite a few people who have been accepted already. Congrats to you all!

You guys it CAN be done!! I hope this gives a little bit of faith to people with mediocre math/science GPAs and low veterinary experience hours! Make yourself stand out in other ways and you will totally be an attractive applicant. I am also living proof that you CAN do half of your undergrad/most of your pre-req's at a community college and still get into vet school!

PS, in case any future gay people want to know, I included my homosexuality (in a relevant manner) in both my supplemental application and in my interview. Ohio State doesn't seem to mind ;)

Just like EllieG.... don't give up hope just because your grades may not be the best. I'm not saying to blow off your GPA... it matters... exceptions exist and I'm proof of that.

I have a lot of proving to do in the next four years and I'm ready for the challenge!

PS, in case any future gay people want to know, I included my homosexuality (in a relevant manner) in both my supplemental application and in my interview. Ohio State doesn't seem to mind ;)

I was wondering about this, actually. Thanks for letting us know. :)

Congratulations (to you, and to others who posted here so far as well)!!

Penny, you're an inspiration! I've had many family members sick with cancer in the past few years. Helping them and dealing with their losses distracted me greatly and my GPA suffered for it. Luckily, I'm back up to a 3.00 and have 1000s of hours of experience under my belt. Thanks for showing it is possible!

PS, in case any future gay people want to know, I included my homosexuality (in a relevant manner) in both my supplemental application and in my interview. Ohio State doesn't seem to mind ;)

Major props to you

On my honor, I will post on this soon. I'm still really shocked to be among the accepted (got an email from Oregon last night and haven't even had the chance to read it - my email wasn't working last night & found out via my boyfriend). It feels surreal and I'm gonna go to the gym & blast off some of the fogginess I feel right now. LOVE!

Hey guys! I know more people have been accepted than this. Please post your stats if you feel comfortable doing so. It really helps those of us who are going to be applying in the coming years.

And congrats to all who have been accepted! :D

I couldn't agree more! I know I'm waiting to hear back from the rest of my schools and make a decision as to where I'm going before I'll post my stats but I promise they will be on here, sometime in April!

Here's a link to last year's thread if you want to see more stats.

For some reason I thought at least one eLOR had to be from a Veterinarian, but if not thats pretty cool.

For some reason I thought at least one eLOR had to be from a Veterinarian, but if not thats pretty cool.

If she's in OSU'S MPH-VPH program (which I believe she is), at least the program director is a veterinarian :)

First-time applicant, 27 years old, Female, Virginia resident.
Applied: Ohio State, Penn, VMRCVM
Interview: Ohio State, Penn, VMRCVM
Accepted: Ohio State, Penn, VMRCVM (I was as shocked as anyone to go 3 for 3!)
Where I'm going: VMRCVM!

Degrees:
BS Biology, Minor in Psychology, 2006
MAEd Community College Education (Biology), 2009

Numbers:
Overall GPA: 3.43
Last 45 credits GPA: 3.92
All science GPA: 3.34
Pre-req science GPA: 2.87 (Unfortunately, as a biology major, my prereq courses were very early on when I goofed around. Obviously I got my act together by junior year of undergrad, then kicked butt in grad school, and the vet schools apparently noticed!)
GRE: 1360: 770q, 590v, 5.0 AW

Veterinary Experience:
~950, all small animal.
-550 at my dad's practice in 2003-2004 as an assistant
-100 as a volunteer at several places in 2010
-300 in my current job as an overnight emergency technician (unlicensed)
Animal Experience:
~585 as a kennel worker at my local Humane Society
~40 as part of my herpetology class in graduate school (lots of field work)

Research Experience:
~900 in undergraduate research on salamander reproduction/behavior
~First-author publication based on my undergraduate research

Work Experience: (I think this was important as a non-traditional applicant)
~A&P instructor (2 semesters)
~Study skills instructor (4 semesters)
~A&P teaching assistant (2 semesters)
~Writing tutor (4 semesters)
~Several years of retail experience, including management

Extracurricular/Community Activities:
I'm pretty boring since working full-time (or working PT while in school FT), so I had a few charities with minimal experience. I also included music groups from college.

Awards and Honors:
Pi Gamma Mu International Social Science Honor Society (2009)
My publication (2007)
Undergraduate Poster Competition Award Winner at the Society for Behavioral Neuroendocrinology Annual Meeting (2006)
Multiple Dean's lists (2002-2006)
National Merit Finalist (2002)
Scholarships for undergraduate school
Senior awards and honor societies from high school

eLORS:
1 from my mentor for undergraduate research
2 from vets I work with currently
(OSU actually questioned why I used two such recent contacts for recommendations. Truthfully, one original reference from volunteering backed out, but I told them that the fact these DVMs were willing to write recommendations after only a few months spoke to my aptitude and abilities. And these recommendations were personal, not generic ones from people I haven't talked to in 6 years!)

Personal Statement:
As a non-traditional student with some rough grades on my undergrad transcript and history of career changes, I feel my personal statement needed to address my short-comings. Perhaps this can help someone else in a similar position.
Key points:

  1. As the daughter of a vet, I truly understand the lifestyle. I understand the hours, stresses, rewards, and disappointments better than most.
  2. I screwed up with my classes fresman and sophomore years. I flat-out admit that I wasn't focused and lacked maturity at that time.
  3. I gave up on my dream of becoming a vet because of some bad grades. The other science-related careers I've tried (research and teaching) weren't satisfying enough, and now I'm back where I should be.

couple thousand more miscellaneous hrs from raising own animals (85+ cows), 4H, livestock/pet sitting, Pony Club, attended two AI classes (2008/2010), college equestrian team, etc, etc

Veterinary Experience:
300 hrs in small/mixed/zoo clinics one summer
150 hrs in small animal clinic
1000 hrs with large animal/dairy vet
couple hundred more miscellaneous hours with other vets (30 here, 40 there, etc, both large animal and small animal vets)

My animal and vet experience was spread over several states too - I took several internships - and I had interviewers at KS and WSU comment on how much I'd traveled and done. It seemed to help.

Community Activities:
Raptor education center volunteer
4H dog obedience leader
Church pianist

Hobbies:
Photography, martial arts, dog training/showing (hunt tests, obedience, CGC, agility), snow- and water-skiing, square dancing, swing dancing, hunting.

LOR's:
Large animal veterinarian (personal vet - seen all my animals, known me since I was 13)
Anatomy/Physiology Professor (took his class, also work for him doing research)
Cattle repro specialist/DVM (worked with last summer)
Dairy boss (known me since I was 10, more of a personal letter)

Congrats to everyone on here!

Also, I need to stop reading this thread. I am still waiting to hear back from five different schools (two of which I interviewed for) and I keep looking on this thread and becoming discouraged. :( My strength is in my well-roundedness and my extensive equine background, but I too goofed off my first two years and my GPA is not as high as it should be. Also, I was an idiot and took the GRE at the last possible date so I could not re-take it when I did not do so well. I keep looking at these stats thinking "oh ok, I don't have a chance."

Just looking at the stats from last year I thought there was NO WAY I'd get in on my first try. I had all these back up plans worked out so I'd have stuff to do if I needed to reapply next cycle but low and behold- I got into my top two choices! So my recommendation would be to have a little confidence in yourself (even if your GRE is average or you don't have 1000s of hours) and don't beat yourself up over numbers that helped other people get in. I proved that my experience was quality and nobody even asked about my GRE. :) Hope this information can help someone in the future!

(I second what GRG said :)) Stats are intimidating but as long as you're realistic, go for it! I had all these back up plans worked out as well (and still have alternatives should the need arise...) If you ever have questions, feel free to PM me about anything that you can think of! But regardless of what others may say, don't ever let someone tell you that you can't do something :D (not even yourself!)

I'm pretty sure that a 630V is a higher percentile than a 740Q - so the verbal score is actually "better" than the quant...
