Hey epivetlove would you mind sharing what we can expect on interview day? I know you can't discuss what questions they will ask us, but could you share how your day went on interview day?? (if you have time of course)
Sure! My interview was scheduled for 4:10 (I think) on Friday (my birthday!). If it's the same setup, you'll be interviewing at the Medical Sciences Library on West Campus, across the street from the vet school. I was living in CS at the time, so it was a bit less stressful for me since I was just down the road. I showed up about 35 minutes early. The other applicants and I waited around in the lobby area where some of the 2nd and 3rd years had coffee, tea and snacks. At your scheduled time, you're escorted into the GPS (where you will spend a lot of your time in the coming years!) and then after getting some paperwork and such, you'll go into a room, sign some papers, watch a video, learn the rules for the interview itself, chill--it all takes a little under an hour. Then you're directed to your starting station and from that point...honestly it goes by really quick. It's technically an hour long, but I feel like it went by in seconds. Just stay calm, read the scenario thoroughly, be very sure to actually answer the accompanying questions before you go off on a tangent (seriously, ANSWER those questions first), make eye contact, remember to breathe. Don't be afraid if the interviewers ask followup questions. It doesn't mean you did anything wrong. You may go over time and that's okay as long as you finished the main scenario/questions. The interviewers have been instructed to give ZERO feedback, so don't freak out if they just stare at you. If you have extra time to just chat (not included in your score), show interest in your interviewers--what they do, what they love about the profession, etc. As far was preparing for this interview--you really can't. Just draw on your experiences, be up to date with the climate in vet med (problems, solutions, etc.), understand ethics and what you'd do in various situations. There will be tours of the school throughout the day and a BBQ in the evening, neither of which I attended.
Um. I think that's it. It seems really bad at the time due to the stress level, but I actually enjoyed the process. I think it was fair, especially for people who aren't highly charismatic. Plus, you kind of get to start new in each room, so if you don't impress one set of interviewers, don't worry--you've got 5 more pair.
Also, I only applied to and interviewed at A&M, so I can't compare it to other schools that have MMI or to traditional interviews. Just remember to be yourself and not freak out too much.
