I would never diminish the fact that we all worked our asses off to get where we are. Also, I agree that "luck" (or lack of) is way more often than not used as an excuse to fail.
If you took any one off this board, took all his money, possessions, degrees and book knowledge away and put him in the trailer park inside the ghetto, he would find opportunities and rise up like a god damn phoenix. No question about it. But that's because he has the confidence to do so. We're not trapped in this endless cycle of "Them people out there got lucky, they gets all the money, we needs our gubmin to give us what we deserve." Like THEY (the other people) are capable of success, and WE are not. People who marinade in that sauce their entire lives are f-d. And these freakin politicians that capitalize on that notion, they just perpetuate the cycle. Our "luck" is that we were never a part of that cycle.
I don't think it has anything to do with lack of opportunity or lack of money or handouts. It's confidence that's missing in the "unlucky". Real, deep-seeded, belief in yourself that these bastards don't have. Personally, I think it's a charitable cause, not govt work. Because charities don't profit by keeping people enslaved.
