I sent a patient home who died a few days later. It's sad for them and the family.

But also, I feel a strange guilty sensation because I worry about myself getting sued.

Sucks. Sorry to hear it. If it was several days later, you likely didn't do anything wrong - but you know that. Sorry again.
 
You're human, not a god.
And sadly, medicine historically only villifies those seen as "lesser", rather than supporting our brothers and sisters who work day in and day out legitimately trying to help people. Setting unrealistic goals only serves to make our lives more miserable, because we can never jump the impossible hurdle.
