107 days out! Who all is signed up to obliterate the MCAT August 7th?

I know it's a bit early but I searched and could not find another August 7th, 2014 MCAT thread! I am hoping that we can keep each other motivated this summer while studying...

I am starting a slightly modified SN2ed schedule May 7th.... slightly modified due to my incredible weakness with physics. I am not taking physics 2 before the MCAT and therefore will be self-teaching it.

Looking forward to hearing from some of y'all!

Um, that's way easier said than done when someone has just been massively disappointed.
I never said it was easy to do, but if someone's seriously questioning their worth and ability to "make it" to medical school, s/he needs more than a gentle "Try again, sweetie!"

I'm so in shock right now I'm numb. I literally had to stare at the screen for minutes before I registered that that really was my score. Never have I scored that low on ANY practice test I've ever taken. I really don't know what to do now. It's actually slowly starting to hit me right now. I can't believe I put that much work into something and still did so badly. My average was pretty high, but this was totally not what I was expecting. I'm really, really sad right now because I feel like I have nothing to show for the summer because I was studying for this. I even pinched myself because I thought it was a bad nightmare that I would wake up from. I never would have thought I would score this low.

I feel like my life is in such a mess right now. I'm in school and have not brought any mcat study materials with me, and I really really do not want to take the new mcat. Plus, I've used up all the study materials I've had...and then there's the "what if I don't score higher than I did the first time?"

Sorry guys. I'm so sad right now I can't even think, so sorry for the rant. I'm crying alone in my room. I feel like no one understands. Perhaps I'm not cut out for med school.

my friend in college went through the same thing a few years ago. he studied all summer at the same time i did, and ended up doing really poorly. and he was crushed. he studied hard throughout the year, retook, got a decent score, and is currently beginning his 2nd year as a med student. just hang in there. this test really sucks. and so does aamc. don't let them win.

I am honestly distraught. Let's just say the score I received when I took TPR Cracking The MCAT, in which I SKIPPED the VR section, was the SAME score I received on this test. I'm unsure what to do now, I've already completed all my secondaries and I'm embarassed to even have this score sent out.

I think I have to do the same, anything later is in flyover states. I need to keep January as last chance hail mary.

Absolutely my issue too. The november dates are also in the middle of all of my exams.. so I really don't want to deal with that. (There were no seats in my state for those anyway.) Cheers to having to drive three hours to take this evil test again!

(btw, haven't posted in quite a while, so feel free to include these stats in the analysis/graph of AAMC average vs. projected vs. actual. never posted my practice scores, so I'll add them too.)

Test Date: 08/07/2014
Time: 2PM
FL AAMC Average: 31.3
Post-test expected score: 29
if I had to go for just one score, if range then 27-31
Actual Score: ( PS / V / BS): 33 (9/10/14)

Studies began on May 12th, also worked 25 hours per week, had a 4 credit hour summer course, and had 1 week that I did not study. I have trouble with Orgo and spent no dedicated study time on it (despite my bio score...)
AAMC 3 (July 13): 31 (9/13/9)
AAMC 4 (July 18): 28 (10/10/8)
AAMC 5 (July 25): 33 (10/11/12)
AAMC 6 (July 28): 33 (11/11/11)
AAMC 7 (July 29): 33 (11/11/11)
AAMC 10 (August 2): 29 (11/9/9)
AAMC 11 (August 5): 32 (10/11/11)

I'm sure there were many other lurkers like myself, but despite that, thanks to everyone who was active in the thread. Congratulations to everyone whether or not you're satisfied with your score - this was an undertaking that imo commands a not insignificant amount of commitment and perseverance.

First I want to say to anyone that didn't do as well as they wanted, don't stop trying and don't give up hope! I took the test last year and got a 23 (8/6/9). Obviously I am very happy to know that my hard work payed off, but I am ecstatic to get a 32. I spent all day (actually the last month) wondering whether it would be tears of joy or sadness. I would have been happy with and was hoping for at least a 28. I checked my score before I left work and had to check again when I made it home to make sure I saw it correctly. Such a good feeling!

I've pretty much been a lurker on this board for the last few months because I've been so terrified about today, but knowing other people felt the same has been helpful and really supportive. So here goes:

Test Date: 08/07/2014
Time: 2PM
FL AAMC Average: 37.4 (35-39)
Post-test expected score: 29-33 (I felt like I got run over by PS)
Actual Score: (PS/V/BS): 37 (14/11/12)

HO...LY $#!%@#$#%!!! I have no idea how I pulled that off! Especially PS. Anyway, congrats to everyone that did well and good luck to those that are planning to retake. Don't give up on your dream. I'll be 33 in a few weeks and decided

Feel free to PM me (if this site has them I dont even know or understand how to feel feelings right now) if you want to group up and puncha some MCAT butts together.

anyone used coursesaver?? any thoughts?? I need to improve my PS, I'm OK with everything else.
I think it's worth the $50 for 5 weeks (1 free trial plus 4 weeks for $50), if just for the Gen Chem. I only bought it the week before and had time to go through G chem and physics. His gen chem was excellent, physics great but not on par with gen chem. Watched some of his bio videos, seemed largely to mirror EK books.

My first post!

Ecstatic about this score! Retake from 03/22/14 where I received a 25 (08P 05V 12B), though I went down 1 point on the biological sciences section, the overall increase in PS and VR should hold more weight. I've always been poor at any verbal based standardized test so hitting the average score is a win for me! I'm proud of everyone, whether you hit your target score or not, everyone here seems to be so dedicated and driven to be doctors and believe it or not, that matters too.

Just drank a nice cold one with my apartment mate and about to go get some tacos for dinner as a celebration!

Actual 10/10/9 : 29
Predicted: 23
Average 27

I had almost NO ochem on my bio section and that is my biggest strength so I guess that is how I ended up with a 9 on BS. I usually always got at least a 10 on BS. I'm celebrating this score!!! I had to teach myself physics 1 and 2 and never once got a 10 on my practice tests in the PS section. For my actual test I thought my PS was almost entirely Physics 2 so I was dying!

I want to give a virtual hug to all those who are disappointed and needing to retake. I was fully expecting to be in your shoes. I hope you all keep trying and never give up on your dreams! I'm 32 and it has taken me many more years than most and incredible losses along the way. You are not alone! (hug)

im tempted to have a couple cold ones myself but i want to keep my head right for these damn secondaries, otherwise the mcat score isn't going to do its job and yield interviews. i don't know if any of you people have been filling them out, but they suck almost as much as waiting for scores.

Very happy but don't get my VR: thought it was easiest part:)
Anyway, here are my stats:
Average on 5 flAAMC: 36
Predicted: 32 ( thought I had bombed PS , ok and parts of BS)
Actual: 37 ( PS 13 VR 10 BS 14)
I guess for future test writers my advice is to ignore in test and post test thoughts and carry on!
Thanks for doing the stats

Down and out... Third time taking the mcat... 23 (10ps,6vr,7bs)

first time 22(7,7,8)
second time 19 (8,8,3) i kid you not on that bio
third and last 23 (10,6,7)

i'm pretty lost at the moment.

Letting everyone know, working on the statistics right now and updating from my previous posts. So stay tuned. Entered in everyone already, except the new people. There's more than a dozen new posters, so that will take some time. So far, based on the old posters, there's a 31% response rate. That should go up once more people start posting. That's good because we were expecting <30% response rate!

I've noted down the number of people who are not posting their scores because they don't want to. That is perfectly understandable and expected. That informs us more about our data and supports the hypothesis that the average on SDN is high because of many factors, including a bias of high scorers posting their scores.

Preliminary results from both times:
AAMC average: 32.1
Predicted: 29.7
Actual: 31.3

75 total test takers from both exams. So far, 23 people entered for actual scores (31% response rate). 53% response rate for predicted scores and 48% response rate for aamc average. More to come, including the graph :)

3rd time retake. 4 years ago I had a 3.4 gpa and 21 mcat (demoralizing). 2 years later I retook and got a 29 with a 3.63 gpa. Been interviewed and waitlisted at different school. Now I have 3.8 graduate gpa and I got a 31 today. 10/10/11. I poured hours into learning how to be a good student. Moral: dont give up.

This was my second writing - first time I got 12/8/11 on 08/16/2013
For some reason my Kaplan scores were closer to my actual score than the aamc scores, but that might be because I did them the week before the exam.
Kaplan FL 6 12 11 14 37
Kaplan FL 1 12 12 12 36
Kaplan FL 2 12 13 13 38
Kaplan FL 9 12 13 14 39

Congrats to everyone that's done with this exam forever!

So extraordinarily happy. Fear of this test, beyond anything else, kept me from chasing my dreams to be an infectious disease specialist for an entire decade. I took exam prep courses twice, bought books multiple times, and kept quitting when I even looked at kinematics or o chem. I simply thought I wasn't smart enough. I'm smart enough, I am capable, and I have defeated my dragons. I believe in my heart that having conquered this demon will make it possible to conquer every other demon in my life.

Something like this will get lost in the pages of people hitting 30s so I'm here for you. Cast a wide net. Consider DO and Caribbean especially if you've got a kickin GPA and some ECs. Don't lose hope.

I'm so happy that I did much better than I expected given the circumstances that I faced. However, I am absolutely stunned at how poorly I did on biological sciences and how relatively well I did on PS. My verbal score is my AAMC lowest. I scored my average for my PS. I scored below all my AAMC scores for biological sciences.

I am stunned because I thought biological sciences was relatively straightforward for me except for that really hard passage.
I'm stunned at PS because after the exam I felt like I messed up on a lot of problems. I don't even know how I pulled off a 13.

I'm in a BS/MD program so I am so happy that I passed and won't have to retake the exam again. However, if I weren't in my program, I would've taken it again and aimed for my later AAMC scores which were in the high 30s. Note: my AAMC scores ranged from a 33-38

Don't lose hope! Last year I bombed the MCAT after months of studying. I was absolutely devastated. After lots of deliberation I decided to take a gap year and try again. This summer I received an 8 point increase in my score! If you are dedicated are willing to put the work in on a retake you can do it! Don't give up hope. The MCAT can truly be a crapshoot. When you start studying again focus on your weaknesses and you will improve. Good luck and don't lose hope!

AAMC test average : 34
Used Sn2ed schedule...might do one of those 30+ things...I should stick to music.

Real deal: 12/08/11 (31)...verbal killed me..that single digit might put me out of many schools...GA resident...
3.95 cGPA

3.9 SGPA

Average ECs (100 hours shadowing...60 hours hospital volunteering...lab TA...some other volunteering crap here and there)

Hopefully draft day will help me...

I see what you are saying but they must have applied years ago when standards weren't as high but these days its uber competitive...

My first post: directed at all of you who are disappointed with your <30 scores.

Test Date: 08/07/2014
Time: 8AM
FL AAMC Average: 12.25/9/12.4
Post-test expected score: 33-36
Actual Score: ( PS / V / BS): 36 (12/11/13)

Took the 7/25/2013 test last year and was really upset to get a 11/7/11, which didn't even meet the minimum standards to apply to any Ontario Medical Schools (I'm Canadian).

But, I'm proof (I guess?) that your scores CAN improve DRASTICALLY! Mine went up 7 points...

I took my 8 AAMC practice tests the 8 days leading up to my exam at 9AM every morning to get me into the morning exam groove. Maybe a strategy for others to consider? Maybe not? Oh, and don't forget to practice verbal (clearly I didn't do enough of that the first time around).

Well guys, I got a 35 (12PS/11VR/12BS).

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a tiny bit disappointed scoring 4 points from my average (~39), but I am grateful. I suffer from severe anxiety and I think the test really got to me.

BUT HEY, I GOT A NICE, BEAUTIFUL BALANCED SCORE AND I AM HAPPY! :)

AAMC Average around 26.
Actual 25 (10V, 8P, 7B)

I'm happy honestly. I'm def not at the level of you guys on this forum but I'm glad I didn't completely bomb this. AAMC practice average as expected. First time taking the test. I could def do better on physics/bio, might retake. D.O applicant. Just glad the wait is over.
Thanks everyone for the support. I'm so happy to see everyone so relieved. Let's become good doctors and make a real difference.

I really wasn't sure what to expect. I know 31 is not a stellar score but I'll be competitive at my state school. I'm happy it's nice and balanced. I really wanted a 33-34, but ultimately I'd have been happy with a 30 and I did a point better. I'm so relieved that I won't have to retake!

Congrats bro I was hoping to see you score well.
