Do you schedule your own patients @ Buffalo or does the school do it for you? What's the interview like?

I believe the school schedules patients for you...correct me if Im wrong. The interview is pretty laid back but also has some more difficult parts: 10 minute timed essay, case study interview with Dr. Brown, the dean of admissions and 2 on 1 interview that lasts about 15 minutes. then lunch with the admissions committee. I literally ate right next to my interviewer and Dr. Brown!

The school started sending out invites at the end of July last year...I didn't get an invite then, instead I got a continuing review - don't automatically think this is a bad thing...they may want to see your fall grades.

I applied here. Periopocket, what were your reasons to choose this school over others?

1. Cost - will run me about 253k all inclusive (cheaper than my state school) - can get instate after 1 year.
2. location - have family in Toronto and my uncle has a dental practice 15 mins away from the school if I need extra help.
3. strong clinical reputation - everyone gets own chair
4. class size 90 (not too big not too small)
5. I loved the atmosphere - everyone was very friendly
6. Ample research opportunities
7. Can take elective courses and get a minor in a specialty of interest

Thank you!

That's actually not true anymore. With the introduction of more international students, people don't get their own chair anymore. Instead, instructors are now assigned to a "zone" of something like 6 or 8 chairs. On any day you could be in any zone, but you know what faculty member is assigned to your zone. This means you don't have to go wandering around the clinic to find them to get signed off. I was told that initially students hated not having their own chair, but the zoning method has panned out to be pretty favorable from what I understand.

Thanks for that update! Keep them
Coming, I still have much to learn myself.

Anybody heard about interviews from Buff? I saw last year by this point they had already begun dishing them out... :luck:

nothing.. do people get a appli complete email??

Students schedule their own patients. The school is running a pilot program this Fall 2013 in which about 20 students have all of their scheduling handled by a secretary at the school. If the program works out, the school plans to expand it.

I did not experience having my own chair but I can tell you that having to run around the clinic to find a faculty member is a real pain (we still do this for specialist consults and when on recall rotations). I love having the faculty I'm working with always in the immediate area.

Thanks UBDent, much appreciated. Anything else you'd like to share about the school?

I think thats a really bad idea. We need to learn how to book and allocate time. It is afterall part of the duty and not all of us when we graduate will have a secretary.

What was the essay on? I didn't know schools ask you write an essay on spot :O

It changes with each interview day. It's basically a straight forward question to make sure you can put coherent thought on paper.

anyone hear back for an interview???

I didnt hear anything yet :(
Btw when did u apply and have everything sent out? Im still waiting for columbia and uconn to get back to me. I only heard back from nyu and upenn.

First reported "continuing review" response from Buffalo in Glimmer's "schools who haven't handed out interviews" list... sorry BruinDentist!

Just got the same one now...NYS resident

First interviews should be sent out either last Friday or this week. Earliest interview days are around the third week of September. Things are a little slower this year. Be patient. Check your spam folder as well.

Interview offer today! So grateful!

hey guys! i just wanted to clear something up. for those of u who are wondering if a continuing review email means maybe no interview, u might be right. i did not get a continuing review email and i got an interview today. i know other ppl who didn't get the email and got interviews today too. i don't want to burst ur bubble but maybe u should call the school and ask them.

This may be partially correct, I never received under review status, just invitation!! But those under review may still have a chance!!!

I received a continuing review email today as well. I wonder if it's equivalent to Midwestern's "pending possible interview" letter. Can anyway post if they received a rejection? This would really help some of us out.

Anyone else interviewing on 10/3 ? Can anyone tell me if I can just take taxi to school from airport/ hotel? I dont want to rent car . How far is dental school from airport, any info would be highly appreciated. Thanks,
