UCLA bro!
Dear sir, please enlighten me!UCLA bro!
I like to read the WSJ and I saw this one article about how San Francisco rents are exploding in cost due to the influx of techies from Silicon Valley. Saw another article from money.cnn. I have included the links below. Thought this might be of benefit to those trying to decide why/why not to go to UCSF.

I didn't apply to UCSF lol. I just found it an interesting article.* Your second source is incorrectly hyperlinked.
I see what your intent is, but I'm going to (slightly) refute your out of context descriptions.
You may search for whatever reasons for apartments in the cited neighborhoods, but most students live in a completely different area of SF. This is not to mention the fact that a lot of student housing around the school is rent controlled, and cost easily half of what I paid for rent when I was a consultant living in midtown NYC. This is directly from current students with whom I've spoken, so if any other students want to comment on what I said feel free. That said, I haven't spoken to any student yet who lives outside of Inner Sunset (where UCSF is) or Mission Bay (where there is also UCSF student housing).
As you were...

I'm not trying to be the internet police, but there's been several cases recently of people discouraging attending certain schools without any relevant references on some of the other school-specific threads on SDN. That's why your references can be misleading or dangerous especially when it doesn't apply 100% in this scenario. Students are worried about debt but also about acceptances and commitments to schools right now.
Oh ok, I understand your reason. Yeah I've heard of people doing that on SDN. Kind of mean lol. Yea, thankfully I'm not like that. Although I'm sure UCSF must have such a high matriculation rate because of its name. I think it was ranked number one or something in terms of getting research dollars, recently. Pretty impressive and good news for those wanting to specialize.
I interviewed Jan 30th, on the last day. I'm from San Jose and live 45 minutes away. This would be so ideal for me. I hope and pray UCSF accepts me.
I hope you are right man. I hope they call me!! Although I think they have already gone through my date and I'm either waitlisted or rejected, you guys might have a chance.I was in your interview group and I haven't gotten a call yet either, but I did recognize someone from our interview day join the FB group a few minutes ago. So they've definitely made decisions about some of us. I'm staying hopeful that since they started the calling process a bit late in the day, that they will hopefully continue into tomorrow.

I don't think they go exactly in order of interview date, man. That would be too ordered haha. They probably made a decision about all of us and are now calling based on whatever's most convenient for the person doing the calling.I hope you are right man. I hope they call me!! I need to decide between UCSF and UCLA. It's going to be a tough one.
Like you, I also had to choose between UCLA and UCSF and I realize it's a super tough call. Both schools are excellent and you really can't go wrong either way. UCLA and UCSF will both provide you with tons of opportunities to become involved in research, in student organizations, in the community, and will prepare you for a productive career in general dentistry, as a specialist, or in dental education. In my opinion it is a really personal decision that depends on a number of factors. To me, UCSF actually is a more well-rounded program than UCLA in terms of integrating a high-quality didactic education with good clinical skills, but there are a number of other factors that led me to choose UCLA over UCSF that I'll share below. Hopefully this will at least help you (and other) students that are in the same position make the right decision for themselves.
1) First and foremost I wanted to go somewhere that would put me in a good position to pursue specialty training. It's obvious both programs are excellent and both send a lot of people into specialty, but in my opinion UCLA places a higher emphasis on this than does UCSF (At this point slight edge UCLA, but I could go either way if this were my only criteria).
2) Next, if at all possible I wanted to remain as close to my friends and family as I could. With UCLA being only about 20 minutes away from my current home and UCSF being about 500 miles away this was a no-brainer for me (of course, it may be totally different for others).
3) I'm of the opinion that no matter where you go to school, you will never be TOTALLY COMFORTABLE to do all of the procedures that a dentist should do coming right out of the gate. The clinical strength of a program is not all that important to me because I think you will learn more in the real world than you will in any school setting, and success in dentistry is determined far more by your people skills and marketing than your clinical skills (obviously you need to be good at what you do, but I think it's naive to believe that the average patient is choosing their dentist based on their clinical skills and not their bedside manner, office environment, and marketing strategy). From the outside looking in, UCSF seems to have a better clinical program than UCLA, but I don't find this to be super important (judging from what so many others say around the forums I'm in the minority here, but to each their own).
4) I wanted to attend a "big-name" school with an exciting sports program and a lot of school spirit. This is self-explanatory - UCLA is awesome in that regard and UCSF has none because it's just a graduate school.
For me, choosing UCLA was an easy decision but you might have totally different priorities. Congrats on being accepted to some awesome schools and good luck in making your final choice - you can't go wrong either way !
Did they call you from a private number? I got a call around 6:30pm yesterday but because it was private I didn't answer. They didn't leave a message.ACCEPTED!!!!!! 7:16pm So thankful!
Interviewed Nov 1st. Have yet to receive any news. Guess that means waitlist or rejection.
Oh well. It was fantastic to have an interview all the same.
Best of luck to everyone else and congrats
CONGRATS! Ahh I want that call so bad! May I ask when your interview date was? They might not have any particular order in which they call people, but it would make sense that they would call the earlier interviews first. Plus since its the weekend, I know I'm gonna be freaking out about it till MondayACCEPTED!!!!!! 7:16pm So thankful!

At me and @djtiesto14 's interview they said they had filled up less than half the class (38 to be exact) and so far, only 5 new people have joined the FB group. I know that's not an accurate assessment, but it's still reassuring! Hope for good news tomorrow guys

There are 81 members on the ucsf Facebook group now. They have around 88 spots. It's looking pretty grim IMO.
There's definitely some dental students in the group, Roger Mraz is also in it haha. Also, I believe it was created for not just admitted students, but also prospective students. Hence, there are people like me in the group too, sorry for making you anxious
I refresh this page about 100 times a day. This is driving me nuts, haha.
Welcome to the club.
And sorry if my reply caused you any anxiety
It took me 11 pages of creeping to finally post haha. Yes, your post gave me a heart attack.
We interviewed on the same day! Congrats!I also got the call today from Dean Featherstone at 12:45. I interviewed 1/9 and am OOS.
I'm so excited as this is my first acceptance! I literally started screaming and dancing in my car when I got the message.
Do you guys recall going over the pink paper for financial aid during your interview? I realized it was in my UCSF folder, and I'm wondering if this affects our chances for admission.
