i would say you are maybe a little too top heavy, but lacking some breadth as well.. 9 schools isn't a ton. not that you aren't a good fit at any of those higher schools, your numbers seem to line up fine with their averages. i just think adding in a few more lower schools could greatly increase your chances.

why not MUCOM? CUSOM? VCOM? LMUDCOM? ACOM? ATSUKCOM? SOMA?

I guess it depends on how much you want that large city experience.

I will look into schools and possibly add 4-5 more

Any advice would be appreciated. I originally only applied to 3 DO schools because that's all the fee assistance program covered, but now I have a little money saved up and am wondering where else I should apply.

29 MCAT (8,11,10)
3.89 cGPA, 3.82 sGPA
150 hours hospital volunteering
56 hours shadowing (Family Medicine MD and OBGYN DO)
200 hours tutoring
400 hours volunteering at the local humane society
50 hours of other random volunteering (habitat for humanity, chemistry field day program for kids, etc)
several small scholarships/awards
no research

I already applied to DMU, RVU, and PCOM. Got put on hold at DMU. I'm getting super nervous. This is my second cycle (first cycle I only applied MD) and I really don't want to do a third. Where else should I apply?

You could throw in KCUMB, Rowan, COMP, NSU.

28 MCAT (8,10,10)
3.23 cGPA, 3.23 sGPA, 3.67 Grad GPA (MS), Upward Swing
Extracurriculars: Two years of research with a poster presentation, >200 hours Volunteer EMT, 50 hrs volunteering at a hospital, >300 hours volunteering at a free clinic, lifeguard, Shadowed neurologist, anesthesiologist, and surgeon (all MD)
Thinking about retaking the MCAT in october.
Thoughts on where to apply?

apply to 12-15 schools of your choice. The Touro's, ACOM, Marian, Campbell, LMU, NSU, and LECOM's are good bets.

cGPA - 3.4
sGPA - 3.07
MCAT - 25 (8/7/10) going to retake in Jan.

EC - 150 hrs of volunteering. Includes shadowing doctors and viewing gastroenterology procedures.
Club coordinator of Asian student association in first college.
Secretary of a club that helps build students to be leaders in my current college.

Hobbies - martial arts, chess playing, guitar.

Preferences - anything I can get into but the better the school the better for me. Money isn't a problem for application.

My list -
LECOM-E/SH
ATSU-SOMA
PCOM-Ga
CUSOM
WCU
ACOM
LMU
PNWU
WVSOM
KYCOM
LUCOM

I would add VCOM-Auburn, Marian, Touro-NV, and COMP-NW.

I actually think you have a good chance to get in somewhere as is, but you will need to be persistent and not be discouraged by rejections and waitlists on your way to that acceptance.

Be wary of LUCOM.

Thank you. Actually I am being very persistent. I am taking more science courses as we speak and I am retaking 2 courses that I got a c last year out of the 3 C I got. My GPA will raise at the end of the year assuming everything goes very well.

If I don't get in this year then I will have a 3.5/3.3 when I graduate next year. And I am scheduled to retake MCAT.

Hey guys just got my MCAT score and any help on making a solid list for me would be appreciated.

cGPA: 3.1
sGPA: 2.9
MCAT (PS/VR/BS): 10/11/10 - 31

ECs:
100+ hospital volunteer hrs
50+ DO shadowing hrs
50+ other volunteer work hrs
Started my own company (also minor in entrepreneurship)
Philanthropic Chair/Head Rush Chair in Fraternity
Public Health trip to China
Anatomy assistant lab TA

Preferences:
ANY DO SCHOOL. Okay, I guess preferably somewhere in midwest/northeast (Ohio resident). In reality though, I want to get in, and don't really care where I end up as long as I'm in school somewhere.

Any other considerations: non-trad, family.
Poor Freshman Year, upward trend at high ranked state school
Ohio Resident
DO and Md LOR

Multiple Faculty LOR as well (if needed)

School list:

OU-HCOM
LECOM (both)
ACOM
ATSU (both)
CUSOM
LMU
UP-KYCOM
NYCOM
VCOM
PCOM-GA
TOURO

Pretty much just threw those together any help modifying the list to where my chances will be optimal would be a huuuuuge help.

Thanks guys

C- 3.65
S- 3.43
MCAT- 13/11/11 = 35

-Graduated 2013
-Clinical research assistant for one semester freshmen year enrolling patients in clinical studies
-Worked for a police dept. past five summers (safety enforcement, not a cop)
-Substitute teach since grad
-100+ hours of shadowing (DO EM, DO ortho, podiatrist)
-200+ hours of volunteer emt work since January
-was the VP of my 700+ person dorm for year
-was VP and sports chair of my fraternity for a semester each
-was the captain in a rec. basketball league this year
- DO letter

I have applied to:
NSU (early August)
Touro NY (this week)
NYIT (this week)
KCUMB (this week)

I have had PCom's secondary for a month+, but I haven't submitted it yet.

Do I need to add any more schools, or should I be confident I'll get into one of these five schools?

For the record, id move anywhere, but Id really like to be in a metro area.

Assume you mean Touro-NY?

You could throw in AZCOM, NSU, and WVSOM as well.

Some of those schools are crapshoots, so I would maybe add 2-3 more to be safe. The other Touro's, COMP, AZCOM, DMU would be good choices.

Am I too top heavy?
So I ended up applying to 18 schools. I just kept thinking I didn't want to limit myself.

I am a Canadian citizen/student.

cGPA: 3.78
sGPA: 3.77
MCAT (PS/VR/BS): 7/7/8.. then retook with 11/7/12 (30)

- completed undergrad then graduate school (MSc) after
- good extracurriculars (incl. clinical) with some leadership experience
- some teaching assistant experience
- NO SHADOWING (is this a problem?)
- MD letter only

I'm thinking of applying to these 10 schools below (which accept canadians)...

AZCOM
CCOM
LECOM
LECOM-bradenton
NSU
PCOM
TOURO-NY
UNECOM
WESTERNU
WCUCOM

Do you think my chances are good with these schools? Any other schools I should add to the list?
DO is less recognized in Canada, but do you think I have a shot at any of the US MD schools as a Canadian with these stats? I feel like the 7 in verbal kills my chances.

Planning to submit application before October... hope it's not too late!

Thanks for your help!!!

I would substitute KCUMB for MSU if you're not from Michigan. MSU has crazy oos tuition and is very in state biased.

It's interesting to me that PCOM has GPAs which are significantly lower than many of the other long established schools, when it seems they receive more applications than any other school.

What about other schools on my list?

You can see above the latest stats that @user3 was kind enough to post. Your MCAT might be slightly lower than some of the schools on your list, but you have a great GPA and you have pretty good ECs. I don't see why you won't get at least 1 acceptance. If you have the money, it wouldn't hurt to add TUNCOM and SOMA. I'm just going off what I've seen from reading things on this forum for a while. Maybe @Goro @user3 or @gyngyn can give you better advice.

I'm submitting my primary tomorrow (very late) and my biology score is frighteningly low. Any school suggestions would be much appreciated.

I called AZCOM and they said they weren't planning to look at anyone with less than a 29 MCAT. Maybe I should overlook that. You think I should apply to the Touros even though they have much higher MCAT averages? I'll add Marian. Also, as my list stands, is it broad enough? Thanks

Degree: Bachelor of Science in Biology
cGPA:
3.47
sGPA: 3.31
MCAT (PS/VR/BS) 7/6/9 -22 highest of the three I took last year.

Employment for the past year: Currently run a lab for a pain and neurology practice performing drug testing. Lab Technologist with the title of lab director.
· Over 65+ shadowing hours,
· Over 60 hours of volunteering in the hospital,
· 100+ hours of community service, etc..
· Member of college organizations such as the medical society on campus as well as others
· A's in hard courses such as Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry...
· Previous teachers assistant for Anatomy lab.
· Undergraduate research

I know I'm a little late applying since applications opened in June and I know my MCAT score isn't that great so please don't hound me on it.
I mustered up the spirit to follow my dream and apply for DO school this year and I need some advice. I plan on retaking my MCAT exam for a fourth time on October 25th of this year if possible. I was waiting to submit my primary applications due to some circumstances I was dealing with and now I'm worried that applying late September will hurt my chances. I know a 22 MCAT score is low but not impossible to get into school with. I had a lot going on when I took it but now I'm more prepared but still don't know how I will perform. I have a hard time finishing standardized exams as opposed to normal school exams for some odd reason due to my ADHD, OCD, anxiety, etc.

Should I bother submitting primary applications to schools now, via AACOMAS, within the next few days or should I wait until I see what my MCAT score is or wait until next year to apply? and if so what DO schools? I know the newer DO schools are Campbell, Alabama, and Marian University.

Any advice is appreciated.

So far I'm looking at:
CUSOM (Campbell University)
VCOM: Auburn, Carolina, and Virginia
Lincoln Memorial
LECOM Bradenton
RVUCOM (Rocky Vista)
Marian University
ACOM (Alabama)

I'd definitely add WVSOM. They're probably in striking distance for you and don't charge a secondary fee unless granted an interview.

I am looking for some advice concerning my DO list

my stats - 32 mcat 11vr/11ps/10bs

3) touro ny
4) western
5) touro cali
6) ccom - mwu
7) rowan ( I'm a nj resident )

You're fine with that list.

I wouldn't add any more schools unless there is one that you really like.

Just out of curiosity, why not DMU?

Could anyone give me some advice on what to do in this situation please? I'd greatly appreciate it. I also still have to submit/pay for my AACOMAS application to be verified.

Submit to 1 school to get verified that does not screen MCATs or that you have 0 interest in attending. Then add more after your new score comes in

That's a great idea. Even though it's $195 for the first application but oh well, everyone knows this is an expensive process.

Any other advice on whether to retake the MCAT or what to do?
If you can raise your score even 1 point it will help tremendously

Edit- that being said, I do think you have some chance at the newer schools. If you are averse to the idea of retaking, apply broadly to them. I would include PNWU WVSOM SOMA PCOM GA and KYCOM as well. I cannot recommend LUCOM.

Dean's honors list multiple quarters, strong upward trend my senior year.
30 MCAT ( 10 PS, 11 VR, 9 BS) had a previous score of 29 (9 PS, 8 VR, 12 BS)
Over 100+ hrs of shadowing an MD (doesn't seem to be the highest amount of DOs in Norcal at this time)
2 years in research, ended with a poster and a publication in an online university journal
VP of a pre med club on campus
Secretary/Historian of a political club
Over a year of volunteering at a clinic near my university
Helped with training board and care operators to take care of intellectually challenged individuals

Just want to know if I have a chance at these schools and if maybe I should add any:

ATSU-COM
AZCOM
PNWU-COM
Touro NY
Touro CA (top choice since it's close to home)
Touro NV
Western UCOM

Why would you not recommend LUCOM? I know their average MCAT score is around a 22.
I will look into those other schools though but do you think that my MCAT score of a 22 and a 24 cumulative will be still work for me in regards to them? I'm not sure how lenient PCOM is with MCAT scores since I belive they were one of the original schools to open up.

Thank you for all of your advice by the way.

I think you have a great shot at all of these. If you are trying to narrow your list down to three, as you mentioned before, I would suggest crossing LECOM-Bradenton off your list if you are not interested in their PBL curriculum, which is the only one they offer at that campus. I've heard great things about KCUMB and LECOM so I'd keep those two. Unsure about TOURO-NV and PCOM-GA so I'll let others chime in on that!

Touro - NV

PCOM-GA (select more of IS students?)

Am I applying to enough schools? Missing any particular schools? I do want to apply broadly across all schools to increase my chance.

Thanks

You have nice stats and you're applying to good schools. Your list is a little top heavy and I would add 2-3 more schools if you have the extra $$ laying around. ~$300 buys you more security in a few months if things don't go your way.

No KCUMB on there?

Thanks for your reply. Do you think applying to LMU, RVUCOM, PCOM-GA and MUCOM would be a good choice of adding 2-3 more schools? Do you have any suggestions? If I'm thinking of applying to Touro-NY, am I adding into the 'top heavy' list of school?

I've looked at KCUMB, I think I might be missing something, but let me check again to make sure.

Hi there!

Long time lurker, figured I'd ask some questions :)

TX resident
cGPA: 3.45
sGPA (post-bac): 4.00
MS in Biomedical Sciences (3.75)
MCAT: 34 (11/11/12)

ECs:
5 years of basic research (animal work primarily)
2 years clinical research coordinator (psychiatry) working with inpatient/outpatient population
adjunct science instructor - 1 year
~3 years volunteering, tutoring, science outreach experience
leadership positions in undergrad

interested in IM, peds in general

Schools interested in:

TCOM
AT Still KCOM
AZCOM
CCOM
ATSU-SOMA
LECOM
Western - CA

After that not sure what other DO schools to add to be honest.

Also, might as well ask while I'm posting - should I add some MD schools to the list to increase the number of schools? My cgpa isn't all that, but I'm guessing can't hurt.

Thanks so much for any input! You guys are doing great work here.

Might as well apply to all Texas MD schools in your TMDSAS, if you havent already. That MCAT and TX residency will help immensely. Really with those stats you can apply to any DO school you want, just pick your regional preference, cost, etc.
