Hello there. If you clicked on this link, you are very likely to be interested in the Private Forum of the Anesthesiology Forum.

Please go to the pop-up menu that appears when you hover over your user name in the top right corner of the screen. Click on “Join User Groups” followed by another click on “Join User Group” in the ASA members section.

There will be a box for you to fill in as to why you want to join. Please put your REAL name and ASA # in that space. No more and no less.

I will send you a PM with further instructions for the verification process.

All personal information is 100% confidential. No exceptions.

Additionally, this forum is EXCLUSIVELY for attending/resident physicians and medical students interested in anesthesiology.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Hi bruins..

if his box is full you can try re requesting like i stated above (via the Group Membership option). i will then verify the info and get back to you.

To everyone that sends in a request. Once you've been approved. You will see on the top of the main screen a forum that says, "Anesthesiology Club". This is something that wasn't visible to you before.

There is no formal email you will receive stating you are in.

Look,

Why not join the Club? I promise to keep you entertained with extremely funny pictures and comments. We need you in our fight against the AANA.

For those considering Anesthesiology join the Private Club and find out the REAL FACTS behind the specialty. You can ask ANYTHING in the Private Club and the discussions are more open.

For those in Residency why not join the Club and get involved in your career? Your AKT exams are important but the things you learn in the Club are even more valuable.

Nevermind, i am not that desperate for it. Thanks for the kind words!

I just read a quote:

don’t argue with an idiot , or he/she will bring you down to his/her level and beat you with experience.

Sorry, I quit. You win.

I invite every Medical Student, Resident, Fellow and Attending to join the Private Forum. Our specialty is under assault and the discussions in the private forum are restricted.

Why not join and participate?

Are IMGs allowed in the forum? (I'm applying for residency this fall, God-Willing.) I have an ECFMG ID number thingie...the one used for signing up for the USMLE.

yes img's can join. but you have to join the ASA to gain admission. like it's mentioned above. go to the ASA website join the ASA and then send a private message to sleep is good with your ASA number and your real name. then he'll add you to the list. it's pretty easy to do just takes a week or two to sign up with the ASA.

OK cool. I'll do that.

I don't understand the need for a pvt forum. If there is a "troll", ignore it. What are you going to say that you don't want others to know?

Can count many reasons..CRNAs,other midlevels...Also in my opinion better clinical scenarios and more free discussion without bickering.

Cheers:thumbup:

I don't buy that answer. How does narrowing your audience and participants enhance the clinical scenarios? How does limiting your participants lessen bickering? As I say to my children, it takes two to argue. And from my experience here in the last several months, the majority of the bickering was between and among attendings.
Whatever, if that is an environment that some of you want, so be it. But I will not be a part of it. More than half the people in my group are AA's, and I respect their opinions and have learned much from them, especially the more senior ones. I think we all need to be open to others' opinions and view points. You don't need to agree with them, but you can listen, and maybe learn. And if they become annoying, "ignore" them.

did you include your real name and asa number in the request? if so then don't expect to hear back the forum should just be open to you. if not then register with the asa.

Hello I requested membership in private forum but have not heard back.

Thanks,

Please follow the directions from this thread. All I need is your name and ASA number. NOT PM'd to me but rather through the Group Membership sction.

It's all at the beginning of this thread.

I haven't been granted access to the private forum yet. Thanks for your help.

FYI, I have been posting cases and clinical discussions in the private forum. I will continue doing so and hope many will join that forum.

I will freaking join the f**cking club. Not for the ASA just for the you guys and the fight against AANA!

The ASA membership for students requires the Department Chair's signature too ?! And it has to be via snail mail. Sigh.

MS3 here. got the chair of the department to sign my ASA membership now waiting on snail mail. I'm really interested in this.

I have assumed the duties of verifying club membership. The request process to join the club will remain the same but a few things are going to change. In order to encourage participation in the club, users requesting membership must have been a member of SDN for at least a month and have also accumulated a reasonable posting history. Once I have received the request for club membership, I will contact you via PM in order to finalize the process. Finally, if anyone notices that their club membership is no longer active, PM me and I will be happy to reactivate the access.

I want in!!!!!!!!!!

I've been searching online, and I still don't know how to get an ASA # :(

I'm just a lowly M2. Is there a form I can give my school to fill out and send to the ASA people? Can I do it online? Anyone with a helpful link? Are there exceptions for ohio staters?

thank you!:)

Check out the ASA: click the medical student link

http://www.asahq.org/joinASA.htm

You will need to have the chair of the anesthesia department's signature and 10 clams, but it's pretty easy to join.

Yup. Very easy. Plus, it's a good excuse to meet the chair and express your interest.

Hey Arch:

I am a resident at a New England program. I sent you my ASA stuff and haven't heard back. I would like to join. Lata

My apologies. I have been a little backed up with the requests but I will get to all of them in time.

Where is the link to the private forum?

Once Arch approves you for the private forum, the link will show up denoted as a folder icon beneath the main anesthesiology forum when you are logged in on the main forum index page. To request access just follow the directions above on this thread. Although, it can take a few days from the time you make your request to the time you are approved.

I applied for admission to the private forum about a week ago. Still no response.

I totally get wanting members to first become members of the ASA, but I think that membership could be easier.

As a fourth year, I am all over the place with interviews, away rotations, global health, outpatient settings. Getting the chair's signature is kind of a nuisance (and I have already met him many times. He wrote one of my letters, and I plan to work for him someday).

Additionally, why can't you enter info on the website? FAX? (It might be time to move to the interwebs, afterall Al Gore didn't invent this thing just for porn) It is just my opinion, but I think membership should be convenient (albeit exclusive). I am a member of SfN, APS, HBM, and IASP.... all allow you to do everything you need online.

This isn't meant to be whiny, more suggestive.

Let's go with "helpful" suggestive seems to imply something else and I promise that I am not flirting.
