I do have some ECs, some community svc, and officer positions in my dental club. But its the weakest part of my applicaiton. I just have to wait and see.
peterngu,Hey everybody. I have a 2.99 science GPA (AFTER post-bacc work, so it was even worse right out of undergrad) and just received my 3rd acceptance today. Stay strong and study hard!
Hey Dan,peterngu,
Where did you get accepted? Just curious. Congrats and Good Luck with everything!
My DAT scores were consistent 19s, except for a 18 in QR, a 20 in GC, and a 23 in PAT. Nothing special or considered competitive on these boards. What were your DAT scores? As you can read previous to our conversation I am a mature student going back to school. I am working on my remaining prerequisites right now and plan to retake the DAT. Anyways just thought I would ask you as I know money can be tight at times raising a family and it would be nice to know what schools could potentially accept me with what I bring to the table. Thanks again for getting back too me.
Take care,
Dan
thanks alot playa
any word yet for yourself???
I didn't apply for this cycle. just gathering everything and getting ready to apply in May. I'll be asking u for tips for sure!

You taking courses now or working?? Every lil bit helps
Let me know when your writing your personal statement.
I'm just boosting up my volunteer/shadowing hours right now and applying to masters programs for the Fall. Also looking for a job but tough due to the economy. I'll definitely shoot you a pm once that personal statement is ready..thanks for the help homie.
hey congrats achilles! dude i'm part of this club too and hope to be in your position in a year or two hehe
Nice job Hula girl!! Hopefully i get the same love. What were ur DAT scores?
Hi everyone,
I just want to keep the positive vibe going! I graduated undergrad with a 2.7 I took a year off and then entered into a post-bac program where 2 years later I now have a 3.9. That still only pulled up my cumulative GPA to a 3.1. I've been accepted to Tufts and BU and received interviews to NYU and Pitt as well. It may take some time to achieve your goals, but in the words of Kevin Garnett, "Anything is possibllllllllle!"
Where did you do your post-bac at?
Hello! I've been reading around the forums quite a bit and am really glad I came across this thread! Gives me some hope coming out of a really bad undergrad. Right now I need some advice though...
Here's my situation:
Graduated UCR in 2007 w/ a B.S. in environmental science.
Took all my prereqs for dental school and did not do very well in them except in a few classes. (cgpa: 2.765 bcmpGPA: 2.3)
Now here's the dilemma... Is it best to pursue a second baccalaureate in biology to up my GPA and to retake some of my C's and a D in the bcmp classes? I know the retakes will only average the gpa and not replace them.
OR
Enter a Masters program in a hard science or MPH program and do really well in those classes.
Are there any other options for me to consider?
What's your DAT score?Hey all! Just here to throw in some positive thinking! I graduated with a 2.9 GPA in biology and decided that I wanted to do dentistry. I honestly felt like crap at the time, because my grades were so low, and I knew I could have done better, but at the time I really was not motivated, I was just trying to graduate! Anyhow, I was always saying to myself, "This sucks, I'll never get in." And then, I log into the under 3.0 club and I read this post about positive thinking and how this person was accepted. So I was like, "okay, only good thoughts from now on." I joined the pre-dental club and took my transcript to the admissions office and asked them what I needed to do. They told me NOT to sign up for the master's program, because it was too late to apply but to take a semester of classes with the Master's students, and at least get a 3.5, which I did. They told me to take the DAT and come to them with my scores, which I did. They told me to shadow a dentist for 50 hours, which I did. They told me to try to get a job as a dental assistant, which I did. Long story short, I got 3 interviews, and was accepted to NYU and Indiana!
I honestly think that positive thinking is really the way to go! I know sometimes when you are looking at your grades, it can be kind of depressing... and you are thinking to yourself...."I don't even know why I am trying, because no one will accept me and I will never get in." However, once I dropped that negative thinking, thought positively and honestly just said to myself that I WAS gonna get in (I literally said this to myself everytime I felt upset), it seemed like out of nowhere, great things started to happen!
Seriously, if you have a school in mind you want to go to, call the office up, go to the office with your transcript, start talking to people in the admissions office about what you should do to be a better applicant, show that you have interest! You literally need to stalk these schools to show that you want it! And trust me, it does not bother them one bit. Because, if they really see that you are committed and dentistry is something that you really want to do, they WILL acknowledge that. The admissions lady literally told me that I needed to do what she said, so that when my name came up to the committee and they have doubts about me as an applicant, she could say that I did everything that she told me to do, and that shows commitment!
I'm not saying that if everyone does this, they're gonna get accepted. Nor am I saying that you will be accepted right away, it may take some time. However, if dentistry is something you really want to do, do not and I repeat DO NOT let anyone anywhere tell you that there's no chance, because there is!
I'm a religious person, so I always tell myself this, and if you are religious, perhaps you should say this to yourself sometimes: "God will NEVER present you with a situation that you cannot handle." Just say that to yourself if you are sitting there studying and just really wanna throw yourself down a flight of stairs...haha, because that phrase has honestly helped me a lot.
Happy studying and good luck to you all!
Post-Bacc programs are basically courses you take after you acquire your bachelors. A masters would be one example.
