those who just completed residency

What is the current job market like for you guys? I'm wondering because my gf wants to do a residency after a year working in retail. She is ok with her store but would like to do residency to get into a hospital. However, if the chances of landing a job are still difficult even with a residency, it's probably better to stay where she is than be jobless for a long time. What are your thoughts?
