Title says it! Does anyone have anything to chime in about the feb article in JAMA about the new consensus definition of Sepsis?

Until CMS changes current guidelines, it will have no impact on my practice.

Things have swung too far and everyone is "septic".
I have a cold now and I just worked out. I'm SIRS with source of infection.

Maybe some of these new papers will get things headed back in the correct direction.

But seriously folks, the SOFA score has seemed more specific than SIRS during my shifts since the paper's release.

I share gman's frustration that metrics lag so far behind the literature.

The focus has now shifted towards end organ dysfunction which will undoubtedly make the SOFA more specific compared to SIRS; however, I am more concerned about the sensitivity for poor outcomes related to infections with this new scoring system.
