Tips for biochem metabolism?

Hey all

I'm in biochem and we are starting the metabolism chapters next week (glycolysis, glucogeogenesis, Krebs cycle and oxidative phosphorylation)

Any tips for how you guys remember or have remembered the molecules involved and their structures, as well as the energy payoff and steps?

Writing them out over and over and over. Not fun, but it's the only way I could make them stick.
 
Prioritizing logic over memorization. Every step in glycolysis happens for a reason (e.g., Glc is immediately phosphorylated to G6P once inside the cell so that the glucose can't leave the cell via the glucose transporter and will stay for glycolysis). Same goes for everything else; there's always a justification to be found. Find them, know them, and it'll all make sense easily.

On a related note - the enzyme names make sense (mostly): they describe the reactions that take place (in a few cases, it's the reverse reaction, but close enough). So finding the parts that make sense really help.

This. Also, there are usually several key, regulatory steps in a pathway. Make sure you know which they are, how they're regulated, and why.
 
Just imagine it while you're reading it. Then explain it to you step by step. Huge tip : know what its happening in the molecules ( chem point of view)

Source : I can still draw the entire cellular respiration step by step with their enzymes, reactants, products etc..
