Be careful: I tried to self-teach a lot of ultrasound stuff when I was an MS 3/4. Its not at simple as it seems. The biggest pitfall that I encountered was not position of probe or "looking for what I was looking for", but rather the technical this-and-that of the probe and machine itself. Having a properly adjusted depth/gain/etc totally makes or breaks your image, and if not done correctly - will frustrate you to the point where you say "this isn't working".
