Hey, I am really interested in pharmacy at UMES, however, I read all over the news that this school has a horrible reputation when it comes to crime. Furthermore, salisbury also has a horrible crime rate. How do you feel safe going to a school such as UMES?

My concern is if I went to school here, my wife would be coming also and with a crime rate so high... How would I feel safe for my family? Lastly, how would my wife find a job in a place so isolated and dangerous?

I would really love some honest feedback about the safety of salisbury and princess anne as a whole and the opportunities of jobs. Thanks!

So UMES really had a time when the one undergrad was murdered on campus during their homecoming last year (2013). However, I know personally I have never felt unsafe on campus. Even when walking from the pharmacy building late at night to the parking lot there are lamps lit on campus and you can call for a police escort if you don't feel safe.
As for Salisbury, certain parts like downtown seem to see more crime that make the local news. A lot of students opt to stay in certain apartment complexes, such as Marley Manor, that aren't downtown and i haven't heard of anything going on (note: there may be issues but I haven't heard anything voiced).
I don't think the area is as dangerous as some of these "Most dangerous cities" lists make it sound to be, but rather that there is more crime in this area than you would expect (more of crime per population). As you noted it is kind of isolated and people speculate that sadly that's why some people act out because there isn't too many things to do here on the shore. But it makes for a great study environment if you're not tempted by the nightlife and other recreation.
As for your wife, it depends on what she does for work. There are opportunities but not as many as if you lived in a more populated area.

I hope this gives you some insight. If you have any more questions please feel free to message me and I can try to find information for you if I don't have it readily available.

What is the instate and out of state tuition at UMES? If got there for one year can I apply for state residency and get instate tuition rates?

You can find tuition costs here: http://www.umes.edu/About/Default.aspx?id=241 and scroll all the way to the bottom for the PharmD program-$28k per year for in-state and $53k per year for out-of-state. Some students have been able to qualify for in-state their P2 year but you have to switch all of your information to your new Maryland address once you've set it up (driver's license, voting registration, bills, etc). Not everyone is granted in-state however if you're missing some key parts so you'll want to call the pharmacy office and see if they have a list of all the criteria they use to establish in-state residency.

Hi, I just had my interview at UMES last week and out of all of the schools I've applied to, this is my top choice. Does anyone know how long it takes before you're notified of their decision? Congratulations to all who've received acceptance letters!!!

I got accepted!!! Can't wait to start!!!
