Program-Specific Info / Q's USC 2016

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Congratulations everyone!! I was wondering what date you had to let USC know by? I'm wondering if they're still sending out emails, or if most of the acceptance emails have been sent out.

They said that a confirmation to enroll is wanted by March 10. There's an orientation at USC on April 1.

I'm going to say that most of the email have been sent out. There may be one or two spots being held for the possibility of a stellar candidate submitting late. But the March 10th date makes sense since final decisions will be made by the end of March allowing time if people decline to pull from the waitlist.

has anyone gotten anything besides an acceptance email? like waitlist or rejections? :O

I was at an information session on Friday and they said people could hear back anytime, possibly through the end of March. They also said they get a lot of offer rejections due to cost. Based on that info I'd bet they send out offers in waves with varying commit deadlines to keep track of how many spots they have left. Don't give up hope! I haven't heard anything yet but hoping soon since the deadline for my other programs is 3/11

The price tag is indeed a tough pill to swallow. I'm waiting until March 9th or 10th (hoping to hear back from another program) before accepting my seat with USC.

wow okay that's comforting haha thanks! :D

I also have not heard anything back. Feeling a bit discouraged, I emailed Sarah and she let me know that a majority of the applications are still pending! So don't lose hope just yet :)

10ninja,
According to Liz Carley Admissions Director, less than half the cohort is admitted for early decision. Sorry, but I can't find the total cohort size at the moment though.

I applied for early admissions and was deferred to the regular admissions decision date (Feb. 15th) - she said the latest I would hear back is the end of March.

Is anyone else concerned with the cost of USC? $120,000.000 tuition for the Master's and another $60,000.00 on top of that if interested in pursuing an OTD.

I am currently in the program. The total program has about ~150 people (not sure of exact number), only about 12-13 guys I believe. Everyone is divided into 3 cohorts so basically you go through the program with approximately 50 people. Yes the tuition is very expensive but there are a lot of great resources and great networking opportunities. Make sure you apply for the financial award once you get in. Hope that helps!

Can I ask how you are liking the program? Any insight into how best to prepare for the start of school? Lastly, is it true that USC is heavily research-oriented? Thanks for your input!

Has anyone heard anything from USC today? Or know of anyone who recently got accepted? I have been checking my e-mail every hour since last Friday as well :( I'm not sure when I should contact USC admissions directly to get some info.

How does USC view reapplicants? I'm trying to let that possibility sink in for me :/

I think in the event you are declined, I would contact Liz Carley to see how you could make your application stronger/more attractive. I would also apply to the early admissions date, that way your app would be considered twice (sort of )

So far, it looks like acceptance emails are being sent out on Thursdays. Maybe we'll see another wave on the 10th? :)

AHH! I've been gone for like a little more than a week and SOO much has changed!! Congrats to everyone who has been accepted so far! I'm so excited for y'all (and tad bit freaking out for me haha) ...I still have hope that the majority of acceptances haven't been out yet (the ones who have heard back I think we were just so amazing that they were put in the top tier). Going off of last year again, I noticed the orientation reception has moved. Last year it was on Friday, March 27th (this year it's Friday, April 1st giving an extra week since the deadline). With that being said, the majority of last year applicants were notified of their admittance on Monday, March 2nd (allowing for exactly 4 weeks until the reception). If the schedule is exactly like last year, the BIG wave of applicants (with the majority of acceptances) being notified should be next Monday, March 7th (or sometime around then). That allows for exactly 4 weeks until the reception like last year. So again, everyone don't lose hope. I'm not haha :)

@hamburgundy I honestly believe this is the case. It seems like the thursday pattern was the same last year too, so, March 10th will probably give another final wave of acceptances. Best of luck guys! I hope we all become colleagues some day <3

I got an email from Liz Carley today and was accepted! I didn't see anything about financial aid though. My yousc portal doesn't work though so maybe it's on there? Did anyone else see that they got anything?

My stats since people seem to be wondering:

I'm super excited to be accepted, but worried about the money....I guess I have some thinking to do haha. Good luck to everyone I hope you hear soon!!!

Congratulations!! Just wondering but is the 4/1 orientation for all admitted students like as an open house? Or is it an actual orientation for only committed students? I got accepted into Tufts and am planning on flying out for their open house on 4/1 but I'm slightly hesitant to book the flight cuz I haven't heard back from USC yet /:

Hi there! First off, congratulations on your acceptance to Tufts!! I'm not sure if the orientation is for committed students or for all accepted students. I was given a deadline to confirm my seat with the program by 3/10 and they stated that if they did not get a response by then, they would assume that I had turned down my seat and rescind their offer of admission.

has anyone contacted the admissions office and asked when the next wave of decisions will be sent out?

If the statements above are accurate and replys were due 3/10, the next/final wave of decisions will be sent out the end of March along with rejection notices. The admissions office has stated that final correspondence would be the end of March.

For anyone wondering, my acceptance said I had to notify them by March 18th!

USC is on spring break right now and I'm not sure if the admissions office is working this week.. if not, we probably won't hear back until next week... :/

I just called Liz Carley and she said that the admissions committee is still not done reviewing applications so we could be finding out more acceptances this week until the end of March

Hey everyone,

I heard back yesterday via email about being accepted. Sending everyone waiting good vibes and positive thoughts! I was crying every day for the last few days and had lost all hope. But, I think it's safe to say that usc is still emailing acceptances. I turned in my app very close to the february 15th deadline.
