I am a medical student currently doing internship in india
I am currently preparing for usmle and had a query regarding electives
When is the ideal time for IMG to apply for electives in US
And how are electives different from clinical rotations ?
Are sub internships still offered to IMG ?

You best bet is setup clerkships for about 4-6 months. You will have to start inquiring and applying now if you want to come in Nov or Dec. Some clerkships will require Step 1 and many won't. You should check it. You have to get insurance etc as well. None of the clerkships are paid so you will have to spend your own money for this. Remember even though it is unpaid it is very competitive to get a clerkship for an IMG. Try to do clerkships where you have a decent chance to get a residency. Some higher tier schools have made this into a money making venture and they will charge for clerkships but as an IMG you will have no chance of getting a residency there. Hope this helps.
