I am going up to Washington D.C. next week and am somewhat interested in Georgetown, so I was going to stop by and look around. Are there official visits for medical schools before the interview process? Like where they give a tour or talk to you a little bit about the school? If so, do people do those visits much or just wait until the interview?

When I had my interviews I went around and looked on my own, once had to be escorted by a security guard, to get a feel for the campuses and manage my anxieties a bit.

I don't know of schools that do pre-interview tours though, unless it's an open house event.

?

Call the admissions office and ask. I am sure some schools offer tours of the campus. It is probably not nearly as common as college days or open house days but it is worth calling about.

for med school they basically will not waste their time with you before inviting you for an interview

I did an actual tour with one school, but I've just walked around a few. I like just walking around on my own and getting a feel for the campus.

This is definitely true for us. Also, don't just show up in the office and expect a tour, either.
