Hi - I'm starting to get a little concerned with zero interview invites!
Here are my stats:
-3.5 GPA (slump sophomore year while working 20h/wk), 3.75 GPA in informal post-bacc
-30 MCAT (10/10/10) round 2, 24 MCAT (8/8/8) round 1 six months earlier
-5 years in clinical research (3 years full time, 2 years part time in undergrad)
-3 publications, just submitted first author publication
-2 oral presentations at international conferences
-tons of clinical experience through my job (plus random shadowing days)
-weekly very meaningful volunteer experience (plus a history of consistent volunteering efforts)
-3 very strong LOR from my PI's, one from post-bacc program, 2 from undergrad (1 sci, 1 non-sci)
-hobbies: running half marathons, fundraising, etc.
-worked fulltime while completing post-bacc classes and studying for the MCAT
I applied to 45 (yep....45) MD schools. I focused on research heavy schools since that where the weight of my app is and I'm interested in academic medicine. Primary was submitted 6/7, verified 6/18. I've been rejected by 2, and received secondaries from 39 out of the remaining 43. Submitted 38/39 secondaries ($$$$$$$). All secondaries were submitted within 2 weeks of receipt.
I've signed up for the MCAT in January (before it changes). So far I've received a "we're not interested in interviewing you yet but you're not rejected" status change from ONE school and radio silence from the other 37. My earliest secondaries were submitted just about a month ago, so my questions are:
1) With a 30 MCAT, I know I'm not going to be in the first group invited to interview. How long after submitting my secondaries (and not hearing back) should I wait to assume I'm out of the running? I need to decide when I need to pull the trigger and start studying for the MCAT again.
2) What the *$)(% else can I do to help myself for this cycle? I've written a draft of a very assertive-please-interview-me update letter that I will personalize to each school who accepts updates. Besides that, what else should I be doing?
Thanks!
