Hi,

Can you lose your pharmacy license if you get a DUI (I love to drink) or commit a crime? What are some of the ways you could lose your license? Just curious :)

What bay area are you referring to? The SF bay area, the Tampa Bay area, the Puget Sound bay area (is there a puget sound bay area????)

Check your state board of pharmacy website. If in CA - it lists all possible ways to lose your license (including alchohol related) in addition to other vague references to ways not listed specifically.

Why do you ask? If you have to ask...you're drinking too much (& god forbid if you've been drinking on the job!)

I believe if you murdered someone or was caught smuggling drugs you would lose your license (anything that's considered a felony). Along the same line, if you were drunk driving and you killed someone in the process then yes your career as a pharmacist, as you know it, is over.

sdn1977, is it true that if you mess up on the job, gave a patient the wrong drug and it killed him/her, then your license will be revoked?

I am pretty sure you would lose your license if you stabbed a customer that was complaining about their co-pay. But, it might be worth it, try it sometime.

LOL. SDN1977: I'm from the SF bay area.

What about if you stripped naked and ran across the field during the Super Bowl after taking 4 Viagra? Would you lose your license?

I know pharmacists who have killed people with errors and are still working.

Yeah, but that's in WV so it doesn't really count. BTW, I went rafting on the Gauley once...it was really pretty.

Just ask yourself "Could I get arrested for this?" and act accordingly.

Get all loaded up on coke at work grab a 500 pill bottle of lortab go to the gay pride prade in assless chaps and start throwing out the tabs like they are candy to all the people along the street. Hell maybe the people on the side of the street wouldn't give the prade participants such a hard time then.

There are a remarkable number of offenses that you will not necessarily lose you license over, depending on the state you work in, although you may get your license suspended or be put on probation.

PLEASE DON'T drink and drive because you are putting the lives of innocent people in jeopardy when you get behind the wheel after you've been drinking. Not to mention your future. A regular old DUI may end up with a suspension of your license, but if you kill someone, you are looking at jail time and probably losing your license. And either one could happen at any time...

In healthcare in general, the offenses which are most serious are those such as abuse of the elderly, assisting suicide, etc. I don't know about pharmacy though.

No, you might get sued. It would depend on the degree of your problem

With that question you need to live as if youve already killed someone. Imagine what that would do to you.
I lost family to drunk drivers. I dont support drinking and driving AT ALL.

I also KNOW people drink and drive, were human. I lost not immediate family but family. there kids still would drink and drive even after there loss. So i dont mean to through down so much. I just dont support it. stay safe

Drug diversion (taking drugs that are not prescribed to you or selling them to someone with a prescription)
Gross negligence (killing someone and it was your fault cause you did something completely idiotic, or you were drunk on the job)
Dispensing a fake prescription
Obstructing a patient (Didn't that pharmacist in Wisconsin who stole women's birth control scripts lose his license?)
