Hello everyone,

Major: Medical Technology

I am in my third year right now.

First semester GPA: 3.2
Second semester GPA: 2.68
Third semester GPA: 3.55
Overall GPA: 3.14
MCAT: TBD

Clinical experiences: None however, I want to do an internship in Medical technology

Volunteering: 75 hours of volunteering (Done in high school)
Honors Student
2 semesters of research

I plan to get more A`s. Unfortunately, a have a couple C`s on my transcript. What should I improve on and what can I do to improve my chances?

I have worked part-time overnight throughout my college career so far.

Also, the Medical Technology major is not guaranteed, I am in the middle of applying to medical technology programs.I want to apply to MD`s during the fall 2014 cycle and I want to apply the summer 2013 before. However, the medical internships are not supposed to start until after I begin applying. I was planning to include my Medical technology experience in my application? What can I do about that?

Thanks!

suggest going to school full-time. Your part-time work might be too much of a distraction. Go to your school's student services and see if they have any educational/learning specialists, who can help you improve your learning styles.

Right now you're not MD calibre, but should be OK for DO schools.

I do not think it is a distraction as I work only two overnight shifts on friday and saturday nights. I believe I can handle it and I am still able to my schoolwork on sundays. I have always had problems with test taking and you are right that I should figure out what works best for my learning style. Thanks anyways for the advice, but I will try to improve my gpa and if it works.

I already go to school full-time.

improve gpa, study hard for mcat. previous poster seems to have misunderstood or misread parts of your qualifications. i think the internship for med technology will be beneficial if it allows you to interact with patients, which then you can use to talk about on your applications.

unfortunately you can't use activities/honors/volunteering from high school so you s hould seek out opportunities for community service asap

Taking standardized test is a skill and can be learned, so this is what you'll need to work on. We're addicted to standardized test in medical school (plus boards!)

I will start volunteering at a hospital about 3 hours a week for the next year. I will try to start shadowing as well.

Is there any other non medical related community service I should do?
Does tutoring privately count as community service? I have been tutoring for 6 months already, however it is private and undocumented..so I am not sure. I technically do help kids succeed in their courses.

Thanks in advance!

Yes I do need to work on that. I was thinking of trying Kaplan, but only if my MCAT practice test score is that bad and I absolutely cannot study it in my own. I looked over the practice test and the questions did not seem that bad. So we`ll see. Thanks!
