What good places in USA for forign student ?

I intend to have an observership in USA this summer but I would like to know which city is the best for me as a foriegn student that we find a room to rent in it easily and we can find puplic transportation to move inside the city since I don't have a car .

Any big city like NYC, Boston, Philadelphia, SF, Chicago. Stick to the north-east and north west as they tend to have smaller more compact cities that are more friendly for public transit.
