Percutaneous electroneurostimulation therapy or some such acronym. It has been sold as PENS therapy for about 12 years or so, and the original company used a plastic flexible sheet with embedded multiple needles (10-20) that were used to impale the patient's back all at one time. The needles had stimulation electrodes connected to each, and electrostim was performed in-office for about 30-60 min. Never really caught on, ostensibly due to having that many needles stuck into the muscles all at one time...
