When I went to MCW, I got a free t-shirt and when I went to Mount Sinai, the interviewer gave me his purple fountain pen.

At BU's lunch they had really good chocolate chip cookies. :p yum yum

hmmm...I think the only thing I've gotten from an interview (aside from lunch) is the "I Survived AMCAS 2002" pin from the University of Michigan.

I left my USF interview with a pretty sharp looking pen (if only it didn't have Navy stuff on it), a pocket-sized band-aid carrier (fully loaded...aw yeah), another pen (from Tampa General) and chocolates. They were, by far, the most giving school I've interviewed at. Also, their lunch was the best. USA's lunch was quite good, also. Albany, on the other hand, just gave us chips and a soggy sandwitch.

T-shirt?!! Damn! I've only made out with a couple of $*#(ing pens!! --Trek

at my last interview i got a phone number and a date! seriously!

At UChicago they took us to dinner and those shrimp! Wow!!! really big juicy gulf shrimp and a whole duck for me alone. Yes that was special. I vowed never to forget those shrimp ever. At HMS I got a T-shirt which I'm yet to wear. Nice heavy fountain pen at WashU. Much love at Duke.

Original - I take it your were one of those wined-and-dined MSTP applicants??? Alas, we non mud-phuds get only cheepie pens (Harvard wasn't handing out T-shirts to the NP applicants!)

Jessica! Stop hating :p
Yes I am MSTP and hence the jumbo shrimp in Chicago. However my Harvard interview was not MSTP. They smacked me in the back of my head with a baseball bat. I didn't feel a thing. Thank God for those endorphins. I interviewed there HST and got the shirt from my student host.

I got an acceptance from one of my interviews...now, THAT was cool!

what???

i've never gotten anything cool except sometimes a good lunch.

I think I interviewed with the first batch of applicants at MCW, so they had lots of extra goodies for us. At Sinai, I saw the interviewers pen and as a way of introducing myself, I talked about how much I loved his pen. He had a pilot varsity (disposable fountain pen) just like the ones my friend in high school had. I had this thing were I kept borrowing the pen from my friend just to use it. When I graduated from high school, he gave me one as a gift. It was my favorite gift. I'd rather have a 1000 pilot varsity pens over 1000 dollars. (Though 1000 pens would cost more than 1000 dollars, but that's besides the point.)

Brian I think Jessica was replying to Original, NOT the original poster.

I haven't gotten jack at my interviews, other than the all the handouts they give you. Not that I'm looking for anything other than an acceptance, that is.

Like choker, I did get a few e-mail address, but no dates.

At UTMB in Galveston, I got actual shadowing-type experience on one of my interviews. I was set up with the head (I think) of orthopedics. He wasn't in his office, so an assistant took me to him in the hospital where he was busy. I watched him help put a cast on an elderly lady's ankle. Then we sat and talked for no more than 10 minutes of very very basic questions. He told me he had a waiting list that was months long and that he'd like me to just follow him around for a bit. I sat in on some consultations with patients, watched 2 ingrown toenails get cut out, looked at X-rays, and interacted with other doctors on this ward. All this within the alloted 45 minutes or so. My most memorable interview to say the least.

That sounds awesome!

I got a personal tour of the school by my interviewer at NJMS

At Medical College of Ohio I received an awesome fountain pen and lunch at one of the fanciest seafood places I have ever been. I am waiting on the acceptance though. I am sure it will be a better gift when/if it comes!

At the University of Iowa, I got this little cardboard box containing bandaids, antacid, ibuproferen, spot remover, etc.

They told us they wanted us to do our best without worrying about the little stuff. It was definitely cool. I have taken it to my other interviews and even dipped into it twice!

Definitely the nicest gesture so far!

I actually had an interviewer ask for my pen. I had swiped it for my first interview because idiot me forgot one and was staying with one of my friends who is an investment banker. She got this pen (very cool silver) from a meeting, so when I opened up my portfolio and started writing he actually asked me for it...I was so shocked I almost gave it to him, and then I realized at some point I have to give it back

At USC they give out beepers to the interviewees. They beep you in when your interviewer is in the office and ready. I accidentally took their beeper home after the interview. Hehe. I mailed it back to them a week later. They accepted me anyway. =)

At the UT Southwestern MSTP interview night, they had a bar tab at a club. Any drink you wanted was on the MSTP tab, including the good stuff like absolut vodka. None of that cheap stuff.

only a t shirt from mcw and lots of paperwork from the rest. good lunch at stanford though.

Wash U gave us a travel alarm clock so that we wouldn't sleep past our interviews :) It was a pretty crappy clock, but it's the only thing I've gotten (no pens, tshirts, or bar tabs for me!).

When I was at the JMP (UCSF/Berkeley) they told me about an applicant and med student host who ran up a $100 lunch bill, which Berkeley (reluctantly) footed the bill for. Unfortunately they told me this AFTER I got my $5 coffee-house sandwich.

At my interview at West Virginia University they gave me this really cool oversized ceramic coffee mug that has their school logo and the medical staff symbol on the other side. It is really big and I love it.
The interviewer said "Here is a little something from us. But please don't take it on any other med school interviews." I laughed.

hey my washu clock never worked! and neither did the battery that came with it...

Sinai gave me an umbrella after the interview a nice new black and white totes. Mayo had some serious wine and dine. It was unbelievable.

Oh yea -- there were three types of wine at Sinai but no dinner.

I'm jealous!! I get no love...no pens (well maybe 2), no T-shirts, and only mediocre food.

wine AND an umbrella? I didn't get anything at Sinai! oooh wait - I got a mini pastry and half a cup of cocoa for breakfast :)

I drank port with my interviewer and listened to Frank Sinatra. Anytime I tried to speak he would interject with a "Shhh, lets just listen to Frank". I listened to Frank. The interview went well. And a lovely tawny port.

You get keychain pen lights at Duke...

...and with that trite comment I made it to the 50-post plateau... ahh, senior membership!

Wine at Mt. Sinai? And Frank Sinatra/ tawny port?!?!

Include the name of the school with the stuff if you can. I have a new way to choose the schools I'm going to apply to! Stuff...

I was given a Christmas present which was my first acceptance letter at my number 1 choice school.
Now I think that beats a t-shirt, dinner and jumbo shrimps combined

ah, but not the date i got!!!

wait, actually, yes it does. nevermind.

I got a papercut from my Yale interview: I thanked them by proceeding to bleed all over their sign-in sheet.

at the end of my interview, a fellow interviewee slipped me her number.

as for med students, i have to strongly advise against flirting with them. i did so casually at harvard, and two hours later she turned out to be my interviewer. it was actually very funny and she turned out to be the best interview i've had (2hours). so actually, go ahead! flirt with the med students!
